Decision 2008: Why You Should Take a Second Look at the VP Candidates

With Senators John McCain and Barrack Obama running this year, why should you take a second look at the vice presidential candidates?

This election season is a very unique one, whether we elect our first black president or our oldest president, one thing should be kept in mind: who is chosen as the running mate of our candidate of choice. Sure, every election year we glimpse at the vice presidential candidates, but we never stop to consider the implications of the rare occurrence that they become commander-in-chief. The reason we don't? Because it is just that, a rare occurrence. This election year however, it may be just a little more likely to occur.

Barrack Obama's campaign has already gotten death threats. It just takes one psycho to act upon it. White supremacists would hate to see Obama elected, which makes an assassination attempt more likely to occur than one would like. For this reason, be sure to keep in mind that whomever Barrack Obama chooses as his running mate, could become president.

On the other side, John McCain, if elected, would be our oldest president ever. With age comes many great things, but there is the ever-present lurking of death. McCain seems healthy enough, but at 71 years of age, you can't be too sure. Keep an eye on whomever he chooses as his running mate as well.

To date, eight presidents have died in office, four of natural causes, and four who were assassinated, hopefully another won't be added to the list. This election is quite a unique one, but don't forget about the vice presidential candidates. Picture the candidate as president, imagine what our country would be like under them, and ponder upon it for some time.

Don't forget, the president doesn't have to die for the VP to takeover, this can also happen if the president is mentally or otherwise incapacitated, as by stroke.

Well let's see - of course when you wrote this VP nom's were not announced. So now, we have Ms. Palin, young, experienced and vibrant and Mr. Biden, older, very experienced and probably not accepting of new things...
