A student was shot by police at the University of California, United States, after brandishing a gun on campus, Tuesday (15/11/2011).
Police spokesman, Dan Mogulof, Wednesday, said the man who was shot is Christopher Nathen Elliot Travis (32), first semester student at the university. Officials at the university said, a campus staff see Travis carrying what looked like a gun on the escalator on Tuesday. A staff was then called the police and said that Travis took out a gun from his backpack. Police then hunt down the student to computer lab on campus. When Travis lifted the still loaded gun, police shot him. The shooting occurred about 5 minutes after police received a report. At the time of the shooting, there were four students who are in between the police and Travis. None of the students were injured. After the shot, Travis was taken to the Oakland Hospital. A few hours later, Travis’s life can not be saved. Police said the shooting was the first incident that occurred on campus since the 1980s. Class schedule is not interrupted by the incident and the officials requested that each student looking for their belongings left behind in the evacuation process.
