2009 has been a big year for some crazy people and some crazy situations… stories of people behaving badly, people not practicing what they preach, and people believing the craziest things. Usually this is what you’d expect from our politicians in any given year, but in 2009 it’s been the rest of us behaving badly.

Award for Worst Parents of the Year:

Ma and Pa Heene. You may know them better as the parents of Balloon Boy. The Colorado couple that led authorities to believe their six year old boy was off floating thousands of feet in the air in a sort of homemade UFO. They had their boys involved in the publicity scheme and made them lie about it to police and media. They also put emergency personnel at risk in their attempts to rescue a boy that never needed rescuing (not to mention how much this cost us tax payers). And the saga doesn’t end there. Who knows what will happen to the boys as the parents must face criminal charges.

Award for Worst Christian Spokesperson:

Carrie Prejean, the Beauty Contestant who became a spokeswoman for an anti-gay group, who wrote in her book we should treat our bodies like “temples to the Holy Spirit”… yet who also got a boob job, posed topless for pictures and who came out with a pornographic tape. Her story is long and complicated. But according to her, she’s just a victim being attacked by the godless, left-wing media. After all, it’s not her fault she recorded and sent porn vidro to a man… it’s the mean media’s fault for broadcasting the story (read with sarcasm). And the saga doesn’t end on this story either. Her “one time mistake” she allegedly made as a teen may be a bunch of lies. Reports are coming in that this is one of EIGHT pornographic videos she taped when she was as old as 20. Okay, what she did isn’t really all that bad, she just needs to stop trying to play the high-and-mighty Christian card who judges others for being immoral and inappropriate.

Award for causing the Worst Mob Mentality:

The 2012 movie. Yes, this is based on the Mayan calendar ending in December of 2012. But no, that doesn’t mean the world is really going to end. I don’t blame the movie makers for causing this hysteria. They’re just trying to create a great piece of entertainment. What’s unfortunate is that so many people are taking this fictional flick as fact. This is drama, people. Just ask the scientists and the Mayan experts… there is nothing to worry about.

Okay, America. No stars for good behavior this year. We deserve to be grounded, or at least given a time out.
