Confucian World Congress will take place in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia in June 2012.

Confucian World Congress will take place in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia on 22 to 26 June 2012. An estimated 20 countries will join in this congress. This Congress is an evidence of the international recognition for religious tolerance in North Sumatra and Indonesia.

The support of Medan Government to the implementation of the Confucian World Congress is one step forward in the life of religious tolerance in Indonesia, especially in Medan, North Sumatra. Medan is the fourth largest city in Indonesia. The Supreme Council for Confucian belief Indonesia and the city of Medan have the harmony of religious life and there will be  security guarantees to every person in carrying out in accordance with religious rituals and beliefs.

It also reinforces the positive labeling of the North Sumatra as a miniature or a symbol of the diversity of Indonesia. In addition, the implementation of this congress will be an opportunity for the city of Medan, North Sumatra to introduce its cultural and other resources to the international world.

Confucianism is one of six religions recognized by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia through Presidential Decree no. 6 of year 2000. History noted that the existence of Confucian Religion in Indonesia actually has been for centuries. It is characterized by Ban Hing Kiong Temple, establishment in Manado, North Sulawesi in 1819.

While the number of adherents Confucian in the city of Medan is the largest number in Indonesia. This makes the city of Medan to be a strategic place for people to hold the World Confucian World Congress. Congress is scheduled to be attended by 20 countries from around the world.
