Pictures of Hitler and other historical criminals having sex have been used to promote safe sex. But is it a step too far?

Hitler in stand against HIV

A German advert shows us Hitler, among other historic criminals, engaged in sexual activity with unknown girls.  Apparently this is to show us that AIDS is a killer.  It would seem that the makers of the adverts thought about the face of AIDS.  Can AiDS have a face?  Well, if it could then these advertisers say that it would be the face of evil.  What better face of evil that Hitler?

In a way this kind of logic does make sense.  However one must worry about the use of such extreme images.  No one doubt that Hitler was no exactly a nice guy.  No one also doubts that HIV is a pretty nasty disease.  Although the companion is a little flawed, that is really a bit irrelevant.  The question really is does this sort of thing cause more harm than good?

The first point of note is that I certainly would not have read about a less offensive campaigned.  This if I had no read about it, then you, dear reader, would not be reading about it right now.  So, in a big way it was a success,

However, yes, I have seen the adverts.  Yes I understand the message.  But I wonder if this advert will really change my basic attitude?  Indeed, I think its fair to say that if a Whore offered me unprotected sex I would have decline, advert or not.   Its also fair to say that I am a pragmatic kind of guy who would generally use protection anyhow.  But, alas its is still fair to say that I can get, erm, carried away in the moment like any man.  Frankly in a: ‘hot girl who I’ve been trying to chat up for months and may only get this one chance, but no condom’ moment I think its fair to say I might still go for it.  There are, after all times when you have to bugger the consequences(and in fact the girl come to think of it) .

In fact, all of this makes me worry  if non-educational shock campaigns like this really make much of a difference.  Aside from the difference in the bank balance of the advertiser that it.
