This really did happen in a small country town.

In a world of violence, it’s nice to read something a bit lighter. I live in a small town a few miles east of Austin, TX. Even though we live in the country, we still see our fair share of crime. I picked up a copy of our local newspaper, which only comes out once a week.

I’ll share our front page story with you.

Lexington’s Police, in his police report this week, had two close calls.

Chief received a report of a female being attacked by a sheep. The concerned female reported her adult ram escaped his pen, head butted her, knocking her to the ground, causing an injury to her knee, and now had her treed on the porch.

A family member was called and arrived at the house to assist the young lady and they also were treed on the porch.

Chief requested assistance from the newly appointed Animal Control Officer, and ventured to the residence where the ram was located. The chief reported that on his arrival the ram also charged him. He was able to hold the ram off until the Animal Control Officer, accompanied by several cheering utility workers, arrived.

The ram broke free momentarily only to take a “welcome to the job” charge and head butt at the animal control officer. The ram was eventually restrained by officers and taken into custody, and is currently being detained at the animal control shelter.

The police chief also received a report from an angry business owner earlier this week. The owner’s business is located on the south side of the Square. A young male was riding his horse on the sidewalk in front of the business. The business owner reported the horse left a substantial trail of not-so-pleasant, aromatic, souvenirs on the sidewalk.

The chief gathered enough information from witnesses to identify the young man, and was then able to locate the young man and his horse. After speaking briefly with the Chief, the young man was more than happy to be driven back to the Square, provided a broom, soap, water, and opportunity to restore the sidewalk area to a more pedestrian friendly atmosphere.

Yes, it’s nice to pick the paper up once in a while and not read about murder, rape and robbery!
