Shocking headlines, inaccurate facts, spinning a story, is that the only stories that sell?
I was never a big newspaper reader. I felt manipulated by how the information was organized and I felt like I was led down a path by the Editor. I think the Internet is a perfect opportunity for great writers and journalist to grab the readers attention, by using good information, in a good writing style and doing the research to write great blogs, articles and stories. I am irritated by the sensationalism that seems to get the attention however. I am not a big sports enthusiast, however there was an article by a Yahoo Sports writer about Michael Jordan’s speech for his induction in to the hall of fame. After reading the article, I decided to watch the video, to gage the accuracy of the writers article on M Jordan’s speech. I think Mr. Wojnarowski, should post his article under editorial, his opinion was harsh and did not convey the overwhelming positive nature of the speech. Negativity and sensationalism must surely sell, because this journalist missed the mark by a mile. The good news is I was inclined to do the research myself.
In this day and age I want to see exceptional journalism, with good research and outstanding writing. It is great to have an opinion, but put it under opinions and editorials, not as front page news. If I as a reader have to do the research and determine the facts myself, why am I reading this article. With the dying newspaper industry, I do not see the accuracy of journalism and facts getting better, I fear it will get worse. If you write blogs, articles and entries for web pages on the Internet; please add to the content of the information and give the readers substance and real information.

It’s not necessarily the negativity that sells articles, but the angle that reporters take on their stories. I know where you’re coming from because I have studied these types of stories in my classes. Editors, too, can sit down with a reporter and restructure the story so it doesn’t seem so negative. Not only do you lose readers, but you lose advertisers. Enough of these articles will hurt the reputation of your newspaper.
I think you have hit the point so well , myself I am just tired of negative journalist everywhere.the type thats looks for the bad in good .well written and so true. brian
