A Gauteng man Claims that it was his personal rapes, that led him to stalk and rape Facebook users.

A court in Durban, South Africa on Wednesday sentenced Thabo Bester to 50 years in prison for two rapes he committed using social networking site Facebook.

Bester is said to have struck up friendships with women on Facebook, secured personal details from them and then used that information to stalk and rape them. Both victims needed stitches to their faces, as they were horrifically beaten by Bester during the attacks. Bester nicknamed “The Facebook Rapist” was arrested on the 5th of October for the two rapes, and his whole case was spun round to include sentancing within a week.

While Bester admitted to rapes, he blamed a life of poverty and sexual abuse as the incendiary devices that led him to rape the two women. He claimed that growing up, he lived with his Grandmother who “allowed” a friend to rape him. After the rape he had to have surgery to repair the damage to his anus. Bester than claims that when his Grandmother died, he was left in the care of another man who raped him frequently. Then in 2009 having committed fraud, he was gang raped in prison, and on several occasions a soapy water covered bottle had been rammed into his anus.

The prosecutor Lolly Soobramany said that Bester was incredibly dangerous to be allowed his freedom. The Judge agreed and handed down the fifty year sentence.

Bester sobbed like a bay upon hearing the news, realising that he was being sentenced to many years of rape in prison, his worse fear. He pleaded one last time to be allowed his freedom, but this fell on deaf ears.

It was reported that Bester had already been sexually molested during the week he had been in custody.
