Police and emergency medical personnel were called to a multi-family dwelling in Davison recently, making it the fourth suspected heroin overdose in the area in one afternoon.

Shortly after 8:00 PM on Friday, June 6th, police and paramedics responded to a 911 call to a home on South State Road near Willowbrook Apartments. Among the respondents were two Davison Township police cars, one City of Davison Emergency 911 response vehicle, two Genesee County Sheriff Paramedic vehicles, and an ambulance from Patriot Ambulance. Several officers entered the rear of the building wearing rubber gloves and carrying emergency medical equipment, including a defibrillator. Ambulance attendants attempted to bring a gurney to the victim, but could not negotiate the narrow stairway leading up to the second floor. After several minutes, two officers brought the victim down on foot, supporting him between them.

As soon as they were clear of the back door, the victim, a white male possibly in his late 30s, was laid down and strapped to the gurney and loaded into the ambulance. It is unknown to which hospital the man was taken.

Witnesses in the area, one of which had placed the 911 call, were unwilling to comment on the details of the man’s condition. One of the officers on the scene stated that it was the fourth apparent heroin overdose since 2:00 that afternoon in the northern part of Genesee County alone.

Over the last few years there has been a rise in the mixing of prescription drugs like Fentanyl with heroin and cocaine to enhance the sense of euphoria, but this unfortunately increases the risk of dangerous side effects including respiratory depression or arrest, and unconsciousness.

Another comment from an unidentified source was that “we need to stop wasting the taxpayers’ money saving these guys.”
