Two men decide to break the world record for most text messages sent in a period of time… but will it come at a cost all too great?

Entangled in a massive web of communications, people are almost never out of reach these days. And one of the main ways that people communicate with each other is by text messaging on their cell phones. I myself probably send and receive around 200 text messages every month. Text messaging is so popular because it is quicker than an email and less hassle than a phone call, also it’s very informal, so it’s great for communicating with friends.

I know a lot of people who send out a lot more text messages than me on a per month basis. These people send hundreds and hundreds and sometimes thousands of text messages every month. As a matter of fact, there is actually a world record for somebody sending out the most number of text messages in one month. You won’t believe how many text messages this person sent out… this person, whose name is Deepak Sharma and is from India, had a total of 182,000 text messages sent and received in just one month. That’s pretty incredible. But what’s even more incredible than that is that somebody recently tried to break this record.

Two men aged 29 and 30 thought that they could easily break this record, so they tried. By the end of this past March, Nick Andes and Doug Klinger, had sent and received a total of 217,000 text messages. That is absolutely amazing! At the moment, the men and women from the Guinness Book of World Records are verifying that they did indeed set a new record.

It’s a good thing that Nick Andes and Doug Klinger were on an unlimited text messaging plan or else this experiment would have cost them a hefty little fortune. To Nick Andes’ amazement, once the experiment was all finished a package arrived from his mobile carrier, T-Mobile, costing $27.55 to send. The package contained Nick’s phone bill from the month of March. The phone bill measured inches thick. Contained in the phone bill were Nick’s total charges for the month of March which all in all amounted to $26,000! Panic surging through his body, Nick called T-Mobile who told him that the bill was just a mix up, and that because of Nick’s unlimited texting plan, he would be charged his normal monthly rate. That came as a huge relief to Nick.

I just bet that Nick and Doug are glad their texting spree is over.
