There are several funny yet weird situations that different people from different parts of the world find themselves in, which become newsworthy because of their unusual nature.

Many of us, upon seeing or reading unusual news on television or the papers and the internet, can’t help but laugh or get annoyed by some people’s absurdity or their total lack of self-consciousness when they do weird yet interesting (and sometimes funny) things. Also, there are instances that people find themselves in unknowingly which then becomes newsworthy.

  1. Mr. In God We Trust – AP

    2. Steve Kreuscher’s (pronounced as CROY’-shirz), a 57-year old man from Illinois legally changed his name to In God We Trust. His first name “In God” while his last name is “We Trust” came to him after a realization that God has been very good to him and showered him with blessings. He now looks forward to signing his artworks by using his new name.

    Flagged down by cops because of a traffic violation, Frank Keys Jr. was found to be in possession of heroin inside the diaper he was wearing. Drug sniffing dogs alerted the officers to the passenger side of the car and asked the people inside to come out where they were patted down which resulted to the discovery of the heroin concealed in the diaper.

  3. “Lightning” Really Strikes Twice, At the Same Person – AP

    4. A 16-year old Michigan teen was accidentally struck by lightning during a storm. Though there were no serious damages, she and her mother drove to the hospital when the young girl complains of a tingling sensation in her arms. Since there were no serious damages, she was checked out of the hospital. Because of what happened to her, hospital employees told her she was very lucky that she should play the lottery immediately. The next day, her mother bought her a ticket which won her $20!

    5. A 22-year old woman from Sydney Australia attempted to break out of jail after the court denied her bail and did it by using the air vent. Unfortunately, she got stuck and spent almost an hour there before she was rescued. Now, she faces additional charge for attempting to escape. (I’m sure there’s no more attempts on her part in the near future)

  5. Made Love Inside the Church – Reuters

    6. A couple in Rome, Italy was caught by police after having found to have had sex inside a confessional box inside a church while Mass is ongoing. The couple had already talked with the local bishop and asked for forgiveness for their sacrilegious act. The bishop was said to have forgiven them. Reports said that the couple were drinking hard the night before the incident and went too far.

  6. 1-Person Graduation – AP

    7. A Virginia school performed recognition rights with only one student to receive her diploma. Kelly Danielle Mayo was the only graduate at Broadway Christian’s School where she did not have to wait before all her classmates finish climbing the stage and receive their diplomas. The school reportedly only had 18 students for the current school year. The school principal said that they did not mind if there is only 1 graduate, that they would still want that person to receive the full ceremony.

  7. Clueless Robber Fails to Plan Getaway Strategy – AP

    8. A 57-year old robber from Forth Worth, Texas was arrested after a very unsuccessful attempt to rob a bank. After coming in the bank and demanded the money from the teller, the robber now proceeded to the most important part of the crime which he obviously failed to plan: the escape. Reports said that first, he asked the teller to drive him from the bank. Then he proceeded with his plan number 2 which comprised of attempting to steal a woman’s car. Unfortunately, the woman needed space to pull up and surprisingly, the robber allowed her to pull up, but instead of pulling up she kept on driving. Then the robber tried to steal another car from a woman who needed to get her children out of the car first. This is when two soldiers and bystanders took him down until the police arrived.
