News is not only about politics – which makes us furious; or economics – which makes us despair. News is also about odd things happening around us.

A man from Boynton Beach, Florida, named Elvis A. Barrett, was arrested on February 5 2009 because of fifty (50!) traffic citations issued to him – just in a day!!! Police where trying to stop him after he ran through red traffic light when he crashed his car to another car and a fence.  His traffic tickets were on account on speeding, running red lights, not wearing seatbelts, fleeing and eluding arrest, reckless driving…  And he can anticipate that he would get another case on account of crack cocaine and crack pipe in his car.

The principal of the Rahn Elementary in Eagan, Minn. stumbled across a very effective way of unclogging the toilet.  It was after he made his pupil to unclog the toilet with the latter’s bare hands!  The parents of the pupil narrated an incident in December of last year when their son made use of toilet towel instead of toilet paper as he cleaned himself.  Naturally, the principal was disciplined by the school board and placed him, as investigation is being made, on a forced but paid leave of absence — probably, as he tries to set up his own plumbing service business?

In August 2008, a two-year old toddler in Hidalgo County, Texas named Elisio Gonzales Jr was killed by his aunt.  According to the police, the toddler must have been struck as he died because of brain trauma and hemorrhaging.  But according to his aunt, Mayrah Lizbeth Rosales, her nephew died as she unintentionally crushed him because of her weight.  Whatever… But while it was her weight that according to her account killed her nephew, it is her weight too that to date keeps her from prison.  She is charged with first degree murder, but she cannot be put behind bars because of her obesity.   The judge admits, she’s too fat to be jailed.

Who says social networking sites in the Internet are only for… well, making friends?  A woman named Emma Brady, 35, learned of her husband’s (named Neil) intention to divorce her through Facebook.

In Calgary, Alberta, a 60-year old woman gave birth to a twin after she visited India for in vitro fertilization.  In Canada, she was refused in vitro fertilization because of her biological age.  (While she’s already quite old to deliver a baby, she is not the oldest to do so.  In India, ABC News reported about a 72-year old woman, who was already a grandmother of five, giving birth to twins, too — making her the world’s oldest mother.
