Dissecting this pop phenomenon. What makes her tick?
Britney Spears
The world’s most famous pop phenomenon was born December 2, 1981 to Jamie and Lynne Spears. She is a multi-awarded gymnast before she ventured to her first love – music. She tried for the Mickey Mouse Club when she was 8yrs old but was turned down because of her age. She sent demo tapes to several record labels such as Sony and Mercury but was turned down. It was Jive Records who took a chance on her and signed her on 1998.
The rest is history as the cliché goes. But not in the case of Britney who is still creating history in whatever she does or wherever she goes. This pop icon may be in hiatus but the reports about her never ceases. As a matter of fact, the public clamors for her all the more.

Just who is Britney Spears? What makes her tick? Why does the public thirst for her?
These are but a few of the questions that baffle the minds. Britney seems to capture the public’s admiration and undivided attention. It seems she could not do any wrong, in the eyes of her legions of die-hard fans worldwide.
What is the enigma behind this girl that keeps the public enthralled and mesmerized? It is hard to dissect someone as complicated as Britney. There are many reasons why a person would be attracted to her.
Her undeniable physical beauty is one. She is considered as one of the most beautiful people in the world by People Magazine. She is also one of the sexiest chosen by FHM and Maxim.
She is a home-grown woman with humble beginnings and working class roots. She is hard-working as evidenced by her many records at the height of her musical career. She is frank and honest. She doesn’t beat around the bush. What you see is what you get – even if it could be unsavory sometimes. She exudes a very powerful presence. Her sex appeal is total and all-consuming.
Perhaps the most important clue to Britney’s puzzling lasting appeal to the public is her inner beauty. She is the kind of woman who does not rely on physical looks to get by. What defines her is not her external beauty but strength of character. You know that there is more to her than good looks. You can sense it instantly the moment you lay eyes on her.
Sadly, the Britney we see today is a ghost of what she was years ago. But the potential is there. She did it before. There is no reason why she cannot do it again. Reinvention is her middle name. From school-girl Britney to mother Britney to bald Britney, there’s no stopping this girl. All she has to do is pull her act together and the public will be behind her again. It is only a matter of time!

Another nicely written piece. Interesting character analysis.
Thank you. I’m a fan of Britney so I’m kinda biased.
We are in the midst of a war, record gas prices, home foreclosures, violence in schools and you write about a horrible role model (Britney) as both a woman and a mother. A whole article dedicated to a glorified stripper !!
i understand your point but i don’t see any problem. if we think of war, gas, violence and problems all the time, we will all be dead from stress by now. a little diversion won’t harm you. it will also add spice to your life. it’s good to have knowledge of a bit of everything not just serious issues all the time.
This is a very well written article.=)
To Gwen:
No we would not be dead from stress. Reading about Britney and the 61 million she spent would cause me to die from stress.
I don’t need the Britney Spears spice either and we need knowledge about the rest of the world, not a glorified stripper..
Get a life!!
Sarah,
In the first place, it’s Britney Spears money not yours. Second, if someone is down and in the midst of troubles, I don’t step on them. I don’t derive happiness from seeing people down on the pits – which seems to be your specialty coz you derive some enjoyment in seeing her fall and branding her as a stripper. I don’t do that coz I believe in the Christian way of ‘treating others the way you want them to treat you’. If I step on others especially on their lowest moments, what would that make of me? I am worse than the person I criticize, of course. Since you have penchant for criticizing better reserve it in other articles coz I don’t welcome it here. And lastly, as far as I’m concerned you are the one spending a lot of time reading about Britney Spears and criticizing her even comment on her in other sites, so which one of us don’t have a life now? Listen to your advice.
Angel,
I’m glad you agree. Thanks.
A nice expose, but what if Britney’s ultimate desire is to lose public support? For someone who has been completely manufactured and dictated by the pop culture machine, perhaps she has found power and self-control in “losing it”?
To Sarah:
Do you have a problem with strippers? They too can be mothers. Since when is it appropriate for a woman to be degraded because she is supporting herself or her family? Oh wait–the world is misogynistic–nevermind. A suggestion: Maybe you should stick to reading the Business section of newspapers instead. How titillating!
KK Elliott,
That’s a really keen observation. Your theory could be right. She subconsciously ( or is it consciously?) sabotaged her career in order to find herself, is that what you mean? The idea could not be far-fetched. It could be a reason for her crazy antics.
Well, Sarah has her perspectives. According to Bertrand Russell, perspective depends on where you are at. A penny could look smooth and circular in one angle but in another angle, it would appear different. So we are all seeing Britney from different angles, I guess. To some extent, we are all partly right and partly wrong coz it’s hard to see the situation in its totality, in all angles. But I agree, strippers are human too. ‘Love the sinners, hate their sins.’
