He played Jack Duckworth from 1979, and weeks after announcing he would reprise the role for a Children In Need special, Bill Tarmey has died.
Former Coronation Street actor, and singer Bill Tarmey has died suddenly while on holiday in Tenerife, he was 71.

The news broke around 12.30pm on Friday 9th of November, and is believed to be a sudden and unexpected death, presumably from a heart attack.
Bill Tarmey is best known for his performance as Jack Duckworth in Coronation Street a role he carried from 1979 to 210. Tarmey left the show when his son was diagnosed with a brain tumor, so he was able to spend more time with him.

It was only two weeks ago that news broke that Tarmey and Liz Dawn who played his wife Vera in the show would reunite to play ghosts as part of a sketch for the popular yearly BBC fundraising event Children In Need.
The family of Bill Tarmey have asked that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
