Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds Call It Quits

Eddie Murphy has always been one of my favorite comediennes. From his legendary stand-up routines to his modern-day movies, he gives me (and almost everyone I know) great laughs. It’s obvious that he’s a comedic genius that has undeniable talent. So what’s up with his love life?

If you haven’t heard by now, Eddie Murphy has split with his sweetheart Tracey Edmonds. The story was recently leaked by
Bossip, an online gossip rag that focuses on black celebrities. This news comes as a surprise since the two had a mock marriage in Bora Bora just a couple of weeks ago and were headed for a legal one in America.

This quick split brings up a lot of questions since he was married to his first wife, Nicole Mitchell, for twelve years. From this union, it shows that Mr. Murphy isn’t afraid of commitment. So what’s up?

Celebrity. Sex. Past relationships.

It’s no surprise that celebrity marriages don’t last. How can they? The two couples involved in the relationship live in a fish bowl and every aspect of their love life is critiqued by the world. Look at Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey.

On the eve of their break-up, I wondered if their new marriage going so public actually ruined it. When they were lesser known stars, they were able to work through their differences and stay together. Yet, as soon as they became bigger ones on their reality TV show (The Newlyweds), their love went down the tubes. It is easy to believe that this same affliction happened to Eddie and Tracy. Even at their age, the negative effects of the media are difficult to overcome. And then, there is the sex.

The rumors of bi-sexual stars who marry people of the opposite sex run rampant in Hollywood. Our latest inductee? Britney Spears.

Although Ms. Spears wed and had babies with her ex Kevin Federline, rumors are out now that she still had special love for the ladies.

actually featured a cover of this pop diva frolicking with another lady in the pool. So how does this tie into Eddie Murphy? Remember his run-in with a transvestite?

It was years ago, but the bi-sexual and gay rumors ran rampant for a long time afterwards regarding Eddie. Over the years, his voice seemed to get lighter and he was pictured with other “questionable” men like singer Johnny Gill. So, it’s possible that his desires for a “he” got in the way of his marriage to a “she.”

Who knows? Maybe he got caught in bed with another man or the sex was barely alive. However, even if Eddie and Tracey were able to overcome the cameras and rumors about his sexuality, the past is a demon that can break up almost any union.

Just like “real” people, celebrities often can’t get past their past. Pamela Anderson has never really ditched her first husband Tommy Lee. He’s like a boomerang that keeps coming back – with kids. It’s a recipe for disaster that seems to end any relationship she has with a new beau. Remember her quickie marriages to Kid Rock and Rick Salomon?

Eddie Murphy is like the black male Pamela Anderson. Although their divorce was ugly, I am sure Nicole is still on his mind. This might explain his rebound relationship with Scary Spice. And, he also has a lot of kids.

All together, Eddie has seven children. He had one child going into his first marriage to ex-wife Nicole. They had five. Then, he produced another one with Scary Spice. Can you imagine the chaos surrounding three baby mamas and that many children? It would be hard for any woman to deal with no matter how much she loved a man.

Well, regardless, of the reason for the split, Eddie is now a free man. I am sure we won’t hear from him soon as to why he and Tracey Edmonds called it quits. It’ll probably come up in a fresh, new stand-up routine around the time he’s ready to make the world laugh and can laugh about the split himself.
