Farrah Fawcett

She was my first pin up poster girl.  I was afraid I wouldn’t get to put her up, since my dad was a preacher.  Thankfully my dad was also a big Charlie’s Angles fan.  This was one of those shows in the 70’s that even if we were grounded from the TV, we still got to watch.

In High School down in Corpus Christi, TX she was voted “Beautiful Woman” in the early 60’s.  She got her first break as a guest star on “I Dream of Jeanie” (1965), “Flying Nun” (1967) and “Partridge Family” (1970).

She married Lee Majors in 1973.  Farrah guest-starred in four episodes of “The Six Million Dollar Man with him.  As her career took off, she posed in her red bathing suit for a poster, and it sold a staggering 8,000,000 plus copies.  This was the one I had.

Farrah is best known for her role as Jill Monroe in the hit series “Charlie’s Angels” (1976).  After one season she left the show due to how low the pay was and conflicts in her marriage.  After a contract lawsuit, she did return to the show for awhile.

She devorced Lee in 1980.  Farrah then began to date Ryan O’Neal.

In 2003 she was inducted into the Texas Hall of Fame for her legendary status on and off screen.

In 2006 she revealed that she was battling intestinal cancer and was undergoing radiation treatments.  For a short while in 2007 she was declared cancer free, but a routine check up later revealed a polyp.

Farrah Fawcett’s batter with cancer ended today with Ryan O’Neal by her side.  I refuse to say she lost that battle.  I worked at a hospital for awhile and met many cancer patients and learned then that if you live your life so that you will be remembered and fondly so, then cancer cannot win.  I for one can attest to this for Farrah.  I’ll never forget her infectuous smile.
