Should we be sad?

Start your engines. It’s that time again; time to honor another worthless celebrity because they died. Next on the list would be Casey Johnson, heiress to be of the fortune belonging to her father, Johnson & Johnson and New York Jets owner Woody Johnson. I know, I know…. I’m a big dumb jerk. But this county’s odd obsession with idolizing celebrities when they die is just ridiculous.
While I’m sure Casey Johnson had some redeeming qualities, they damn sure weren’t out there for the world to see. Like Paris Hilton, she was a parasite. A spoiled little brat living in the spotlight because she was, well… a spoiled little brat. (although I believe the term is socialite). Her life was a party; drugs, booze, the Aforementioned Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and constant partying. She was arrested in November on felony charges. Her supposed engagement to Tila Tequila was her single greatest accomplishment in life. She had a child, whom she had gone vaguely through the motions of trying to gain custody of.
In short, Casey Johnson did absolutely nothing to leave anything resembling a positive mark on the world. She chose instead to live like a fool, and as is usually the case, her pitiful life ended tragically. Perhaps instead of painting her in the best possible light, we should leave her empty legacy on display as it is. Our daughters are growing up being given the impression that those like Casey Johnson, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and Tila Tequila are role models. It sends a message that making a drunk, stoned, and very public tramp of yourself is cool.
The Casey Johnson story is a tragedy; but not a tragedy of loss, but of lost potential. At least that’s what I’m going to tell my little girl. I will use her as a precautionary tale. Perhaps her existence will find some meaning that way; it wasn’t through any actions of her own.
If there is a true victim here, it’s the family of Casey Johnson. To Woody Johnson and his family, my deepest sympathies go. To have her life ended so soon, and in such a way… their pain I feel.
Grieve, if you must, for them. But sadly, Casey Johnson chose her own path.

Intersting write, I have noticed on a personal level there are more and more women getting drunk or stoned or sleeping around than ever before, I’m not sexist it just seems a shame to see beautiful women falling out of taxi’s with no underwear on! and around every corner is the ever waiting paparazzi! LB
A tragic ending to a tragic life. If money make you happy in life, this is another example of happiness. Well written article Mn.
Very interesting, thanks for the share!
I am totally with you on this, it is horrible that little girls should look up to such worthless parasites. There are so many bad role models for our little girls. Stores selling bikini briefs to 3 to 6 year olds, 10 year olds being dressed like hookers with their mom’s approval. It is criminal, then they wonder why these little girls get raped and killed, and take drugs!
Very interesting article. I totaly agree with your views. It is time that these so called celebrities are held accountable for their actions.
I agree with the assessment of the cult of celebrity…
fortunately, I’m in Jamaica…I never heard of her
The Jets are cursed. Why couldn’t she wait until the season was over to OD?
So very true! These days, celebrities are people who are famous for being famous. It doesn’t matter whether they are actors, musicians, sport stars, or socialites; we expect them to live selfish, immoral lifestyles and to behave badly in public.
Good insight that you’ve shared with us. The glorification of this kind of lifestyle is a hallmark of today’s society. All of us make mistakes at some point, but most of us don’t try to revel in (and become famous for) those mistakes. In some ways it’s reminiscent of the late 60’s and early 70’s, when several rock stars died from overdosing. At least they were accomplished musicians. Anyway, well written article here …
Good article, Mn! “It sends a message that making a drunk, stoned, and very public tramp of yourself is cool.”
…It seems like this is what we’ve become. Women aren’t ladies anymore and men aren’t (forget gentlemen), men anymore. We continue to go downhill, it’s very sad…rich or poor. Imagine what it will be like in ten or twenty years from now. Mn, it’s good to hear that there is a father out there teaching his daughter something (we need more men like you), and it would be nice for more fathers to hang around to teach their boys how to be men. Morals/values have been lost somewhere along the way…not cool, scary!
To say I agree with you would be the understatement of the Year. Kudos ten fold for shedding a little light on the way the world works. I also sympathize with the family of anyone who has to endure such the loss of a loved one, but it seems they will be better for it in the long run. Keep using people like this as an example for your child and encourage everyone you know to do the same. Maybe just maybe if more people would take the time to do things like that (its called actually raising your children) instead of just letting them grow up on there own there would be less Casey Johnson’s in the world.
natural causes is what I read in an article published online. A 30 year old doesn’t die of natural causes. that is insane. Perhaps, a drug overdose or a fatal illness. great article and well-written but still not sure what led to this strange death. Brittany Murphy was another strange death.
Great article, and you have the right to say and speak you mind. You put words where many won’t venture to go,
Awesome
So true, such a tragedy, but don’t feel sorry for her. Honestly I don’t see why celebrities should be exempt from the things we regular people have to go through. No reason why such terrible role models are looked up to as idols. It’s terrible, yet it still happens and no one stops it.
Now I understand the whole “celebrity” bit…But shouldn’t we honor anyone who hasn’t committed a major crime who has passed away? Should we not honor the pregnant mother who was killed recently in San Diego because she wasn’t a celebrity, nor did she leave a major impact on the world? Instead of honoring her as a celebrity, shouldn’t we honor her as a human being?
No matter what it is, it’s a shame what hapeen to her. She could do so much good in this world with her background.
Very interesting write! rest in peace Casey Johnson.
Excellent summary of the cult of celebrity in this nation. People are famous for being famous. So many of the celebrities live shameful lives and come to a tragic end.
