Many people are hearing the rumors going around stating that Hugh Hefner is dead. Here is the true story behind it all.

Contrary to popular belief, Hugh Hefner is “alive and kicking” as he stated on Twitter. The rumors began on Facebook, and groups were made and everything. The reason this was started is still unknown, but one can assume that it was just someone craving attention.

The first story that got out, stated that Hugh Hefner experienced a heart attack that led to his death. The story even stated that the Playboy magazine would still be printed, even though he was not alive. It even had a plamate, speak about his death. Did the playmate play along for attention? Was she paid to do it? Or was this simply made up a well? These are all unanswered questions but the important thing here is that these rumors have been laid to rest.

Hugh Hefner stated that he was lying in bed with his current girlfriend Sara Bechard, smiling, as he read the rumors on twitter about him being dead. He then tweeted “The rumors of my death are, as Mark Twain observed in a similar situation, greatly exaggerated. I’m very much alive and kicking.” After this post, many people were relieved and ecstatic. Hefner stated that he was very pleased to see how many people cared that he was not dead.

Another possible reason the rumor may have formed, is that Hefner made headlines about his heartbreak, when his fiance Crystal Harris, ended their relationship days before the wedding. People may have confused heartbreak with heart attack, and ran with it. Many other celebrities have had these death hoaxes, such as Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan, Adam Sandler, Owen Wilson, Ben Savage, Oprah Winfrey, William Hung, etc.

The public will continue making up these outrageous stories, mainly because everyone believes them. So next time you hear about a celebrity death, do not panic right away, do some research first.
