Lil Wayne is looking at one year in prison from his run in with the law in July of 2007.

The 27 year old rapper Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., is pleading guilty to possession of gun charges filed after being arrested in July of 2007. Lil Wayne’s tour bus was pulled over by NYPD after his hip hop concert in New York. The concert was his first solo headlining concert in New York, however he almost did not make it to the stage. Security gave Cash Money records CEO a hard time getting in. Lil Wayne threatened to leave and cancel the concert and blame it on them. Once Lil Wayne finally did make it onstage, it was no surprise he was unhappy with the whole situation, and one of his first things to come out of his mouth was  ”I just went through the worst f—-in’ feelin ever with y’all police. This may be one of the only times you see me because of how they treated me.” The concert went on to be a huge success with the crowd on its feet and singing along to all his single, and even his unpublished mix tape tracks as if they were the hottest songs on the billboard charts.

After the concert Lil Wayne had another run in with the authorities. NYPD pulled over his tour bus immediately after the concert around 11:30pm. It would seem as if the cops were not happy with Wayne having the “last laugh” in the matter of letting who he wanted in to the concert or his smart comment on stage. People know cops always want to have the “last laugh”, as they usually get it. The police searched the bus and found nothing on Wayne. Another man was charged with criminal possession of marijuana, and a handgun was found in the bus. The .40 caliber gun was registered to Wayne’s manager, Cortez Bryant, who had a permit to carry it in Mississippi. The gun was loaded and in Wayne’s bus, that was all the police needed to take Wayne in.

Lil Wayne had pleaded not guilty to the charges until this week, in the hopes of fighting it since the gun was neither his nor was it found on him. Things changed on this Tuesday, October 23 when a judge allowed the use of DNA found on the gun to be used in the upcoming trial. Stacey Richman, Wayne’s lawyer, explained that the DNA would be a problem in court. Wayne then accepted a plea deal. By accepting a plea of 1 year in prison, Wayne does not have to appear in court in the beginning of 2010. If he opted for a trial he would be facing up to 3 and a half years behind bar.
