He may not have been a hero, but he will not be soon forgotten either.
It seems that everyone is making their posts on the King of Pop, so I can’t really help but make mine. First, I would like to say I have never been a fan of him. I have heard is music and I have seen his dance moves, but neither has prompted me to buy any of it. However, yesterday when I saw the news of his death at the age of 50 in Los Angeles, I too felt sad, along with the mass of his fans.
Back when I was seven, my family used to have one TV (which we still have today) and one of the few channels we received always played MJ in concert. I have to admit, even though I was too young to understand who he is, I was mesmerized by his famous crotch-grabbing dance moves. Who was this beast? I wanted to know. Whenever I got a free moment, I would mimic his dance moves, albeit terribly and the only thing I was good at? The crotch-grabbing!
Ten years later, I started college. I hadn’t thought of that crotch-grabbing man on TV for a decade. Then I meet one of my future roommates. She is a huge fan. I mean HUGE. She’s even chased him in a vehicle while he was on his way out of court during the child molestation allegation charges. She’s got posters of him on her wall, all his music videos, music, just everything. She’s missed school to go stalk him before and I’m sure it was in her plans to marry him some day if she could. She was the first person I thought of when I saw the news. And then I thought of this other girl who also liked MJ. I’m sure she’s devastated now. MJ was her life and a big deal.
I’m sure whether you were a fan or not, it probably still came as a shock. I know I was. That’s it?! You mean it’s over? No more legendary dance moves? NO ONE is ever going to do what he did. They can mimic and copy all they want, but it just won’t be the same. I read over previous news on him and it’s sad. I think the media really took a toll on his life. He was depressed for some time because no one would believe his innocence. But I’m not one to comment on that. I hope he’s doing okay now, singing and crotch-grabbing with angels.
