Michael Jackson’s Death is Being Overdone in the Media

There are far more important news events in the world that the media should be covering instead of focusing on the death of one celebrity.
Why is it that every time a famous person gets sick or dies, the media tries to turn them into saints? They are NOT saints, they are just people. Some have lived good, decent lives, while others have wasted their lives strung out on drugs and alcohol. Some have physically abused themselves and others and yet they are treated as if they are “gods” because they enjoy celebrity status. Yes, Michael Jackson was a wonderful performer, but let’s face it, he was just plain WEIRD! Whether he was abused as a child or not, he turned himself into a freak. Other children have been abused and they made sure that they never did this as adults. What he did was continue to abuse himself, turning himself himself into a walking freak show. And there are many other stories happening that deserve media coverage much more than the death of a celebrity.
All week on our local news we have been hearing nothing but stories of Michael Jackson. I think I may have heard one or two comments on the fact that Farrah Fawcett also died on the same day as Michael, but they quickly got back to his story. We knew that Farrah had cancer and was going to die from it very soon. Michael Jackson’s death came as a surprise to everyone, but is that any reason to skim over her death as if she meant nothing? I did not know her personally but I am sure that she meant a great deal to her family and friends and the media is disrespecting her memory by not acknowledging her death.
I am not really a “fan” of either of them. Yes, Michael Jackson was a great performer and I did enjoy his music when I was much younger, but the things that he was accused of doing and his own words turned me away from him. Farrah Fawcett was well known in the 1970s for her character Jill Munroe on Charlie’s Angels, but the movies that she made for T.V. afterwards are what made me like her acting ability more. Her Charlie’s Angel character was the typical dumb blond which I don’t approve of. I don’t think she ever wore a bra even once on that show and that is also something that I do not like. I think if you want to be respected you need to behave in a respectful manner. The Burning Bed and Small Sacrifices were two movies that she starred in that showed her in a totally different light. She did an amazing job acting in these movies. They were both based on true stories and she did a fantastic job showing off her acting ability instead of just showing off her body. Her death deserves as much air time as Michael Jackson’s death does.

Michael Jackson on the other hand has always done an amazing job showing off his talent. From a very young age, he has been a star, but his behaviour in later years made his star shine less brightly in my opinion until it shone not at all. Recently they have telling us in the media that he was abused by his father as a child and that is the reason for his later behaviour. Supposedly this is the reason he kept on the abuse himself with more and more facial cosmetic surgeries. People all over the world are physically and emotionally abused and they do NOT continue the abuse themselves. I am sure that there are some who have been hurt so badly by others that they cannot think properly anymore but to actually DESTROY your face with surgery after surgery is just beyond my comprehension!

It makes me wonder about other celebrities like Joan Rivers – have you ever taken a good look at her face? She looks as if she is wearing a rubber mask!

Michael Jackson was a very attractive young man when he began his cosmetic surgery journey. It all began with the thinning of his nose, which was very wide but characteristic of being an African American. There was nothing wrong with the nose that he was born with. Everyone has the right to change something about themselves that they do not like (if they can afford it), but then he continued with adding a cleft to his chin, perhaps higher cheekbones, thinner lips and who knows what else he had done. It was kind of hard to figure out how many surgeries he actually had because then he started straightening his hair which covered his face most of the time, and wearing makeup, LOTS of makeup! He looked more like a white woman than a black man. And who can forget the masks that he used to wear in public? The media said it was because he was germaphobic but was it really just because he was covering up yet another nose job?
In the end he barely looked human. His nose was so thin and small that it appeared as if it would fall off at any moment. I am very sorry to hear of his passing, and Farrah’s as well but I really do not think that the media needs to put off every other story because of it. On our local news lately they have been spending approximately 10 minutes on the actual news stories and weather and the rest of the time talking about Michael Jackson. The same thing happened when Anna Nicole Smith died. She was on the news constantly. This person took off her clothes for money, she had no talent and was undeserving of our respect. Why would the media spend so much time on her story? Yes, of course they needed to find out the cause of her death, but why did we need to be bombarded with images of her half- clothed body every night at dinner time?

These people are celebrities and they live celebrity lives, they are not saints and do not deserve to be treated as such. If you live this type of lifestyle then you should expect to die by this type of lifestyle, it is only obvious. We should all strive to be better, kinder, more loving and decent people and when our time comes, we will deserve all the good things that are said about us.

Celebreties get more attention simply for doing a job they love. I personally do not worship live celebrites, nor dead ones. Although his life was very tragic (because of his dad) he also had a lot more than most of us will ever have. we all live and die, no ones life or death should be held more important.
I agree, you never see this much attention when someone little, or non famous dies, what about each and every one of us who have lost someone special, maybe not millions of dollars involved, but they were the world and most popular and famous to us…
