“Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months,” His publicist said in a statement Monday evening.
In January 2008 We learned that Patrick Swayze was suffering from a particularly deadly form of cancer. Swayze starred in many films such as “The Outsiders,” “Grandview U.S.A.” and “Red Dawn”, But the 1987 film that catapulted him to stardom was “ Dirty Dancing” in which he played Bad boy Johnny Castle opposite Jennifer Grey. He received a Golden Globe nomination for the role of Johnny Castle.

An all time favorite that brought new fans to Patrick was the heart rending 1990 film “Ghost” in which He co- starred with Demi Moore. He was Chosen by People magazine as its “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1991.

His last role was the lead in an TV series, titled “The Beast,” which A&E premiered on January 15, 2009. It was canceled in June when it became apparent Patrick’s health was rapidly deteriorating.
The well loved Actor had been diagnosed with advanced stage four pancreatic cancer in January of last year and had a very public battle with the deadly illness.
Patrick leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Lisa Niemi. The couple have no children.

You fought the good fight Patrick, May you now rest in peace.
