Michael Jackson was that sweet little boy who came out on the stage in the 70’s swinging, with his big brothers behind him. Most of us loved him and at the time we didn’t know he was a child who would not experience childhood. But would never actually leave it behind.
I remember Michael Jackson as the cute little boy who came into the loop with his satin voice and magical moves in the 1970’s. That little boy had style and an innocent smile that captured everyone’s heart. We didn’t know then about the hard father that kept him practicing hours on end. We didn’t know about the beatings he endured. We didn’t know about the child begging to go outside to feel the sun on his face who was denied that human right. We only saw the little boy on stage who looked as if he were having the time of his life dancing and singing with his big brothers. When he broke away on his own his genius really came to light with Billy Jean and Moon Walk.

It was always a shock to me to see him after he began the surgeries that changed his looks so profoundly. Michael was a beautiful child and a handsome young man. We will never know what haunted him so horribly he decided to do what he did. The charming young man that we had known as a child disappeared and this strange looking light skinned man appeared in his place. But underneath that facade was still the same shy young Michael Jackson.
I for one didn’t believed he harmed a child. Michael was a child himself and he said many times in interviews that he was never at ease with adults. He said he felt at home with children. I thought the parents who accused him were sleaze buckets who were after Michael’s money. Anyone who is accused of sexual misconduct can never prove innocence and doesn’t have to. It’s up to the court to prove guilt But in a court of law false accusation and inuendo can play a part in that decision. I have forgotten the facts but I remember the parents had accused someone else and sued for money. It showed a pattern I thought.

Now this talented man child who was the best known person in the world is dead at fifty. Drugs were probably the cause. I heard Deepak Chopra speaking this morning on TV. He said Michael once visited at his home and while there asked him to write a prescription for narcotic pain killers. Dr. Chopra refused and asked Michael to seek treatment for drug dependence. Michael told him he had severe back and leg pain from falling off the stage during a performance. I remember seeing the fall on TV. Michael broke a leg and chipped disks in his back. He was in and out of the hospital and that’s when he began to take the drugs.
Dr. Chopra went on to say that half the doctors in Hollywood are only drug pushers with a medical license. He said they keep the rich and famous suppled with narcotics and he is calling for an investigation by authorities. If it happens some lives might be saved.
And so we say good-bye to one of our most popular icons. Many liked him and many despised him. He was not understood but I believe he was an innocent. May he rest in peace.

Nice article, Ruby. Although I never liked MJ, I do respect other peoples views on him (including my wife’s!).
I totally agree with you Ruby, excellent article, may he rest in peace.
Well written.

A beautiful tribute to Michael. Well done.

Nice tribute. I think for all the riches he had, he was still a sad little boy until the end. I wonder what will happen to his children?
A nice tribute, dear Ruby.
Take care,
François
It’s a shame to die at 50 from drugs but certainly seems to be a pattern.
A wonderful tribute!
Nice Tribute
This is the first time that I hear that argument. People cannot prove their innocence? To the best of my knowledge people do not have to prove their innocence – their accusers have to prove their guilt. Why would his lawyer advise him to settle the case if he was not guilty? These questions have to be answered before you make any decision about his guilt or innocence.

Beautiful tribute to Michael. It was always sad to see him spiriling downwards. He was a great musician. Thanks for sharing this nice tibute to him. May he rest in peace
An excellent tribute by an excellent writer.
Nice and touching tribute.
Ruby, he will forever be remembered for the many barriers he broke down & the immense talent he displayed.
There are things we do not know and may never know, but his talent shown bright. It always saddened me that he was robbed of his childhood. I have read his autobiography and throughout the book he lamented his lost childhood. It seems that there could have been some balance.
Very very nice tribute to Michael, I believe he would have been proud. Such a sad sad thing though. I have always wondered about a childhood for young entertainers and as we know Michael never had one and this is sad because he was such a wonderful, smart, caring and sharing person. I will forever love his music and all of his talents. I pray that he will rest in peace now. Thank you very much Ruby for submitting this wonderful tribute. I truly enjoyed it.
This is very good and well composed. Wonderful tribute. Liz
Thanks, Ruby. Michael Jackson was THE Icon of the 80’s along with Madonna. Love him or hate him, you cannot deny his talent or the impression and influence he created in the music industry.
It’s only fitting that he died at a young age. Like Elvis before him, he became a shell of his former self. I hope that he can be remembered for his music contributions and not his tabloid persona of his later life.
Well written. Interesting that you should mention Deepak Chopra, one of my personal favorite Icons. His fiction and his work on developing a balanced life-style are wonderful reads; he even sponsored/produced a video program that presented a thumbnail sketch of balancing the spiritual and physical.
Thanks to all of you for your comments. Michael was such a sweet little boy and it seemed to me he remained that little boy where it counted. I too, hope he will be remembered only for his music. and not all the things that followed.
Daisy, I read Deepak and see his programs. I think he is onto something and I agree with his views.
Evelyn, I feel for all child entertainers. I think most of them have poor childhoods that money can’t make up for.
speed limit, you are right the court has to prove guilt but gossip and inuendo can play a large part to the jury and maybe the judge, sad as it is to say.
I certainly agree with you about how handsome he was before the transformation..A very nice tribute, Ruby!
