In an emotional broadcast, Sir Terry Wogan has announced that the end of 2009 will spell the end for his Radio two breakfast show, Wake Up to Wogan. Wake Up to Wogan is Britains most popular breakfast show and attracts nearly eight million listeners including many from around the world through live feeds on the internet and the BBC’s “Listen Again” feature.

After 16 years of bringing a combination of news and music over our breakfast, Sir Terry is a figure much loved by the British public. His combination of good music, witty banter, and snorkers or curry being eaten while he broadcasts, has kept us entertained and amused while we prepare for the day ahead. The TOGs, or Terry’s Old Geezer’s, are an active group of eccentrics who represent the nations love for the celebrity.

Sir Terry did emphasise that he was not gone from our lives forever and that he would be appearing in television broadcasts in the future, including continuing his support for the charity Children in Need. He has further emphasised that he will be returning to our radios for future live shows, although the details here are unconfirmed.

As we step into 2010 an era of breakfast radio will end, with Sir Terry Wogan departing our homes and cars but never our hearts. His tales of Janet and John will be a fond memory bringing a smile and a smirk whenever they are considered. A new age dawns, with Chris Evans, currently the host of the popular Radio 2 drivetime show, coming to fill Sir Terry’s not insubstantial boots.
