Practically everybody has heard of Susan Boyle these last few days. In this article we look closer at this new hit sensation that is sweeping the planet.
On 11 April 2009, Susan Boyle, 47 of Blackburn Scotland stood on the stage of “Britain’s Got Talent” And baffled the audience and the judges as she sang “I Dream A Dream”. In addition to the live audience she was also seen by 10.3 million viewers who were watching in front of their televisions. Later on the Internet the videos of her exploded. Millions of people around the globe watched her. Over 45 million people in total watched the video of Susan Boyle Performing on stage in around 9 days on video site Youtube.
Although some may ask “What is so special about Susan Boyle”, a quick glance at a video of her performance will tell you it all.
As Susan Boyle was watching on stage, the first impressions were already made. Many people began laughing. As the judges questioned her the crowd began to laugh. The judges snickered to each other. Even though all this happened Susan Boyle kept her head up high and got ready to stun the audience.
As she began singing “I Dream A Dream” from “Les Miserables” the mood immediately changed. Cheers erupted from the theatre and mouths opened in awe. This completely stunned the audience as they were not at all prepared for it. It was exactly nothing they expected. Many people expecting a mediocre night watching “Britain’s Got Talent” were probably staring in awe as they heard Susan Boyle’s melodic voice erupt from the stage.
As she reached the end, she had received no buzzes or crosses from the judges, but she had gotten applause from the whole theatre and the whole audience was standing up to applaud and congratulate her. The whole theatre’s attitude toward her changed. At first the audience and the judges though that she would be just another “wannabe”. But after her performance this was passed off as they saw her real talent. The judges all congratulated her. The judges awarded her with 3 yes as she was promoted to the next round.
This fairy tale story comes just in time with the recession and the financial crisis. Although some might pass it off as a “Fake” to get the show more viewers, other will argue that it is truly a spiffing performance.
This is an example of how globalisation has helped people with talent show the world their talent through television and the Internet.
Already a Fan Page for Susan Boyle has been set up and already has 1.3 million fans in almost 9 days after her star performance. Susan is all over the “most viewed” section on youtube as she sweeps the planet with her lovely voice and impressive prospects.
Will Susan Boyle be remembered for years to come or will she be a star today and be gone tomorrow. Only time will tell, and the next step is the next round of “Britain’s Got Talent”, where we will see if she will perform up to standards and shock the world all around.
