Shocked Beatles fans have expressed their anger at the famous Strawberry Fields gates being removed and replaced with replicas.
A childrens home immortalised by John Lennon in the song Strawberry Fields Forever has removed the gates that are a Beatles fans attraction in Liverpool.
The gates are the ones that the young Lennon used to sneak through to play in the grounds as a child. They have been replaced with brand new replicas.
One irate fan said ” If they were taking them down to put them in the Beatles Museum then that would be fine.”
Steve Barnes, who runs the Beatles Shop , and runs Beatles heritage tours, said: “This is an absolute disgrace and a betrayal of the city of Liverpool.
“Tens of thousands of people go to visit these gates every year. They are a shrine to the Beatles and having the originals replaced with replicas is just unacceptable.
The Salvation Army who own the property said that the gates had been removed because of their deteriorating condition: a fact not helped by fans peeling off pieces of paint to keep as a souvenier.
They said that a decision had yet to be made as to what to do with the gates.

Interesting post.
oh.. that’s sad!
maybe they just want to preserve the original.
In general the UK respects things like this more than they do in America. things here are torn down all the time, but in the UK you can have a structure 100’s of years old.. so this is a shock
Thnaks for sharing
You can’t blame those people, they simply love the Beatles.
nice post
Much as I hate such items to go to the US I think that might be the place for these. They would sit perfectly in Strawberry fields New York, not far from where John lived and died.
Brillient post think you are an amazing writter !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good post to nurture other people’s mind from…damage.
Nothing but change is forever.
Change is sad, people like shrines, but if something is on private property they have the right to do what they want. Replacing the gates with a replica was a generous gesture.
Good article.
Why has this just popped up in my news feed when I remember it being published months ago? Makes me sad ;’(
Well we must see logic behind the change and Waite for the latest news about it
meh, nothing to get hung about
I’m not surprised at the fans’ reaction. I sure hope something good came out of this as this happened months back.
They should be in a museum.
We would like to know what became of these gates. Very interesting post.
Am familiar with the song but not the story behind it, thanks. Hope the issue will be resolved soon.
I must admit I am disappointed to hear this.
quite a hit
