June 25, 2009 was a terrible day in the music industry.  The world lost a great musical icon.  Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009 at 2:26 p.m. Pacific time.  He died of a cardiac arrest.

Michael Joseph Jackson was born on August 29, 1958 to Joe and Katherine Jackson.  He was the eighth out of 10 of Joe and Katherine’s children.  For those who don’t know, Michael’s brother Marlon had a twin brother who died during childbirth.  I just thought I would give you all some little known information about the family.  Michael was born in Gary, Indiana and rose to stardom with his brothers in the group the Jackson 5.  He had numerous hits with his brothers including “I Want You Back” and “ABC”.  He also had hits with his solo work.  He recorded the best selling album of all time with “Thriller”.  He also had hit albums with “Off The Wall”, “Bad”, and “Dangerous”.  He sold over $750,000,000 worldwide. That’s more than any other artist in history.  His three children, parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives survive him.

I was completely shocked by this news.  I was checking my facebook page and saw posts about Michael being rushed to the hospital for cardiac arrest.  By the time I checked TMZ, it was reported that he died.  I could have fallen out of my chair when I read that.  I couldn’t believe that my favorite singer of all time was dead.  I kept checking the news to see if it was true.  LA Times finally confirmed that Michael passed away.  I practically lost it.  I was crying so much when I found out.  Even as I type this, I still feel as if I am about to cry.  This is the hardest article I ever had to write because I never thought that I would be writing about my favorite singer’s death.

I will keep this article focused on how much I enjoyed him as a singer.  I have read and seen so many things that are not focusing on Michael’s music.  They would rather focus on his scandals rather than what a great performer he was.

I grew up listening to his music.  I remember thinking that he was one of the greatest singers and dancers I have had the privilege of seeing.  I had never seen anyone perform like him.  I doubt I ever will again.  I never got the chance to see him in concert, but I did watch some on television.  They were always entertaining.  He always left the audience wanting more.

I have all of his solo cds, but I don’t have all of his cds with the Jackson 5.  I am trying to find all of the Jackson 5 cds that I can so I can enjoy the music he recorded with his brothers.

It’s nice of music stations to pay tribute to Michael by playing his music and videos.  It’s nice to see the things that his fans have to say about him.  It makes me happy to see how Michael has affected other people’s lives as well as mine.  He left an impact on people everywhere.

I would like to add a quote from one of my favorite wrestlers Bret “Hitman” Hart.  Michael Jackson was “the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.”  It was true for Bret and it’s true for Michael.  Michael was a great icon who will be missed forever.  Let’s all try to remember the great artist he was and not the scandal that surrounded him.

My heart goes out to Michael’s family, friends, as well as other fans who will love and miss him forever.
