Vern Gosdin, singer-songwriter, died at a local Nashville hospital late Tuesday night.

Vern Gosdin, 1934-2009, had a stroke a short time ago and was being cared for by hospice.

Tuesday, April 28th, he was in a local hospital where he passed away. Mount Olivet Funeral home has released details about him. He was a popular artist in the 1970s and 1980s. One of my favorite songs by him was “I Can Tell By The Way You Dance (That Your Gonna Love Me Tonight). He and his brother, Rex, were singing together as the Gosdin Brothers. He was known as “The Voice” of country music. He will be greatly missed and my thoughts and prayers are with his family. He was born the 6th child of 9 in Woodland, Alabama on August 5,1934. They lived on a farm.

It is truly sad when we lose legends like him because there will never be another one like him. To me it is said best in George Jones song “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes”? So please take a moment today to thank God for all of the music legends that you know, and say a prayer for Vern Gosdin’s family.

He had many hits throughout his 30 year career and was well known throughout the country. He lived in Woodland and Birmingham, Alabama; Long Beach, California; and Nashville, Tennessee just to name a few. There were other places he lived also. He raised a family. He has sung duets with the likes of Emmylou Harris and Janie Fricke. He also had some ties to The Byrds.

So go out and find some of his music listen to it and enjoy the memories of a great musician. Other songs I know he sang were “Set’em Up Joe”, “Chiseled In Stone”. To those who know of him they enjoyed his music, and to those who don’t find one of his songs and listen to it with a heavy heart for it is truly a great loss that music lovers everywhere have suffered by his passing.
