In today’s world, it seems like there is an increasing number of celebrities who are living lives that seem perfect by anyone on the outside looking in.
In my opinion celebrities are a bad influence on our culture for three main reasons. One, they portrait an unrealistic lifestyle; two, celebrities make it seem like everyone else has to be skinny; and third, they make it seem that life is incredibly easy.
People like Britney Spears are always in the news for being pregnant or have gotten married and divorced overnight. This makes the average person see that there is nothing wrong in living a “crazy life”.
There are also groups of celebrities out all night partying and drinking. That’s fine for millionaires that don’t have to work or get up early the next morning but when a normal person is out all night partying on a weekday they’ll have to get up the next morning and risk being fired and then have no way to provide for their families.
Celebrities also make it look like as long as you have a pretty face you’ll go far in life and have everything handed to you. In reality there are many good looking people working at the local burger king or McDonalds.
The lifestyles of celebrities may seem glamorous to the average person but when the average person tries to mimic this kind of lifestyle they may end up ruining their life.
When you look at all of the celebrities in the news you’ve probably noticed that there aren’t any “fat” or “ugly” celebrities.
Celebrities and the media have tricked the public into thinking that they have to be “skinny” and “pretty” otherwise they are useless. Many people are ruining their lives trying to look like celebrities. The few people that do succeed in dropping that extra weight most likely spent thousands of dollars in the process.
Many celebrities haven’t been able to stay skinny through traditional means so have developed an eating disorder such as bulimia or anorexia. People hear stories of celebrities that have developed eating disorders and see how skinny they’re so they’ll try it too. Eventually they will realize that they’re slowly killing themselves, but by this point it is to late, they can’t stop.
Some celebrities that haven’t developed an eating disorder have developed a drug addiction to stay skinny. Again like the eating disorder when people see celebrities do this they will think it’s OK.
Celebrities have shown us an unrealistic body image that we “have to have” and have shown us less then practical ways to get and maintain it.
The only time you see celebrities working is in their movies, they make life look easy and that no matter what you do everything will work out great.
The celebrities in shows such as friends or Seinfeld make it look like you can easily make money doing hardly any work. In fact in some places in Mexico the show friends has been banned because people were leaving for America and then finding out life isn’t what they thought it would be in the States.
The media makes it seem that anyone can be a famous athlete or actor if they want to. When people try to pursue this ambition they find that they aren’t as good as they thought they were. Money, time and dignity will have all have been wasted.
Also some celebrities make it seem like if you’re not famous you’re not worth anything. People see all these images on TV. and feel like they aren’t worth anything.
Life isn’t easy like it is on TV, it takes work and dedication to make yourself into anything in the world that we are currently living in.
In conclusion celebrities are a bad influence on the public because they; show an unrealistic body image, show unrealistic lifestyles and portrait a life that seems simple and requires no effort.

I had an assignment for this topic and it really helped me, thanx!!
You know, I am glad that I came across your article. It makes me sick how pop culture has became so important to everyone. Throughout each day, I hear people talking about celebrities and all this other crap. I had one of my teachers ask me, “If you could meet any celebrity, who would it be?” I answered her, “They are just actors, I do not want to meet them, I just watch movies.” Why do people look up to these people? I do not understand. They are just people. Many people live their lives around idolizing other people… it is so strange. When I was little, I looked up to some adults, but this is insane!!! And then, they get political power too? Wow
