Two UK rappers have been jailed for posting a rap video on YouTube warning witnesses over a killing that they risked being shot.
Hip Hop culture and rap always carries a message when you listen carefully to the lyrics. None more so when two men, both rappers, were jailed.
Ishmael McLean who is aged 22 and from Greenford, England and Rowan Simon, aged 18 from West London, used an Internet song in order to scare off witnesses to the murder of 24 year old Jason Johnson.
The two rappers used a video to warn witnesses who may or had talked to the police about the murder of Johnson that they could be shot. Both men were found guilty of trying to pervert the course of justice.
The judge sentenced Ishmael McLean to four years plus a further year for possessing ammunition. Both sentences would run concurrently.
Rowan Simon received a jail sentence for 30 months.
The video in question was titled “Wrong Team” and featured a backing chorus that was sung with the sound of gunfire in the back ground. The video aired on You-Tube and also had links to My-Space and Face-book.
The video was first published on the Internet not long after the murder of Johnson which was in November, 2008. The victim was gunned down and was from Ealing in London.
Eight people had been arrested after the murder and these included both men jailed.
Both men used the rap video to potentially “scare off” witnesses from talking to police about the murder.
