Cynical list of reasons why we can do without healthcare reform.

We hear a lot of hooplah on why we need healthcare reform. I say that we don’t need to change things at all. If it’s broke, let it stay broke. Here is my list of ten reasons:

  1. It will hurt the profits of big insurance companies. Let’s take care of our favorite CEO’s by keeping the inequities of medical coverage and premiums in place.
  2. It will hurt bankruptcy courts. Fewer cases will be seen. This could lead to layoffs in the legal profession.
  3. It will hurt the profits of big pharmaceutical companies. If you don’t like the high cost of medications, just go to Canada or start splitting your pills.
  4. It will hurt foreign competition. Companies may be able to reduce medical costs for their employees. This could reduce their overall cost and make them more competitive. We shouldn’t hurt businesses overseas. It’s unAmerican.
  5. It will hurt the top 1% of America’s wealthiest citizens. The rich are going to have tax increases. This is patently unfair. It could hurt luxury car sales, jewelry sales, and yacht sales.
  6. It will hurt Republicans. We must have a two party system. If healthcare reform were to pass and actually do some good, Republicans who opposed it might get voted out of office.
  7. It will hurt poor people. If you’ve learned to live without health insurance, you don’t have to make many decisions about your healthcare. Just go to Emergency and wait. Take a number. Imagine the stress a poor person would have if he had to choose health care policies.
  8. It will hurt lobbyists. Some lobbyists would lose their jobs for failing to stop healthcare insurance reform. This will lead to more layoffs.
  9. It will hurt doctors and nurses. They will be overwhelmed by new patients. They may be so stressed out that they will leave the medical profession. This will lead to more unemployment.
  10. It will hurt me. I’ve been paid big bucks to persuade you to leave well enough alone. Don’t disappoint me!
