My opinion on the election, beforehand.
This has been a big year for our government. With having a woman running for President, and an African American having a chance to be the president, there is no telling what the next four years entail. It all started around election time, you had many people running, as usual, and among them where Senator Barock Obama (Illinois), Senator John McCain (Arizona), and Senator Hillary Clinton (New York). These three people, two being from the Democratic Party, and the other from the Republican Party, are making history as we speak.
Let’s start with the Democratic Party and its candidates for President. First off the Democratic Party, in my opinion, is more for the people. They’re more Liberal in there interests and affairs towards the way people live, and they have a lot of plans to try and help the economy. Hillary and Obama had started out as partners, then went to rivals, and are back to being partners. Hillary Clinton and Barock Obama were the two main candidates that had a chance at going for Presidency this year, and boy it was a close one. Hillary gave Obama a fight, but in the end Obama prevailed and is now running to be, “The President of The United States.”
As for the Republican Party, their candidate, which is currently running for President, is Senator John McCain. The Republican Party isn’t as Liberal as the Democrats are, and I think that its party is more for the upper class. In my own opinion, I believe that the Republican Party isn’t as much for the people (the middle and lower class) as it has claimed to be. Seeing that our economy has plummeted over the past eight years, almost into a depression, I think that the current President, President Bush, has done more for the rich, than he has for us as a whole.
Seeing that I’m already on the subject of the Republican Party, let’s continue on with its beliefs on the economy, educations, energy and oil, the war on terror and immigration. Starting with the economy, the Republican platform wants to make jobs, and lots of them. They want to protect unions, invest in new technologies, and much more. The republican platforms says, “America’s free economy has given our country the world’s highest standard of living and allows us to share our prosperity with the rest of humanity,” and they believe that it needs to stay this way, but needs a bit of tweaking, to fix our current economic crisis.
As for education, the republican platform believes that, “education is a parental right, a state and local responsibility, and a national strategic interest.” The platform wants to make Americans realize that it is their right to go to school. They want to improve teachings, by hiring better more qualified teachers. The platform also wants to help out with further education; they believe that with “Education Savings Accounts and Section 529 accounts,” Americans will be able to sway from being in so much debt.
To help out with energy and oil prices, the republican platform wants to invest in many different plans. They want to invest in what we already have, but on a bigger scale. The party plans on investing in nuclear power, solar, wind, geothermal, and hydropower, clean coal, and natural gases. They want to reduce the demand for oil and focus on more obtainable things, which do not make us have to rely on other countries. They also want to invest in new car technologies and other vehicles.
To help with the war on terror, the Republican Platform believes that the greatest threat at the moment is “nuclear terrorism,” and they plan to lower that threat, by make our nuclear arsenal smaller, so that other countries follow this step towards piece. They also want to invest in better intelligence’s so that we can learn of attacks, before they are to happen. To help out with immigrations, the platform believes that we need to enforce our rules on immigrations. By doing this, they believe that it will keep gang affiliation and drug trafficking to a minimum, and keep our country safer.
As for Senator McCain and his beliefs on these same problem he, like many that have run for President, has a lot of big ideas to improve the way everything has fallen, but the question is what promises will he keep, what plans will actually go into effect, and will he be able to get us out of the predicament that we have, over the past eight years, dug our selves into? Another factor that weighs in is McCain’s age; he’s 72, and already going a little senile. By the time he’s served his first term he’ll be 76, and there’s no telling what will go wrong.
Some plans that McCain has in mind to change and help education is to keep the “No Child Left Behind,” a program started by President Bush, and hasn’t been as effective as it should. He also believes that the school system should change to be more productive. He also believes in schools competing to get the best out of their students. He also wants to get parents more involved with their child’s educations.
McCain claims that he wants to create millions of jobs for Americans by investing in alternative energy sources. John McCain believes in the flexibility of a work schedule so that you, as parents, can spend more time with your children. He also wants to lower gas and food prices for some immediate relief for the American people, and he says he wants to help home owners, since so many people are losing theirs.
John McCain also wants to eliminate “wasteful spending,” he says he plans to do this by vetoing all “pork-laden spending bill and make their authors famous.” McCain also wants to help keep social security effective and has a plan to lower medical care costs, and make medical care more effective. John McCain’s “Lexington Project” is said to help out smaller businesses and their energy costs. He wants to invest in domestic oil and natural gas, and try to counter act the future potential of the rising of oil prices. McCain also wants to invest in many tax projects to lower taxes and keep them at a fare rate.
To protect the future of our country John McCain plans to invest in alternative energy’s, to protect against climate change and harmful gases to the environment. He also wants to get our country off “relying on foreign oil,” again, by investing in domestic oil and energy research. Also to promote cleaner emission’s for cars and lowing carbon emissions, McCain wants to “commit a $5,000 tax credit for each and every customer who buys a zero carbon emission car.”
John McCain’s plan to protect us from future terrorist acts, McCain’s plan is to strengthen the U.S., prepare us for any catastrophic events and invest time in getting “International Cooperation.” This would help keep peace and would help us be ready to take immediate action if anything would happen. Another way he plans on securing the U.S. is be securing our borders. He also wants to secure our borders to help out Americans, by helping the job security issue.
Now for the Democratic Platform and its beliefs on education, the economy, energy and oil, the war on terror, and immigration. The Democratic platform believes that we need to invest more in sciences. They believe that since the Bush administration has been in power, the money spent on science has become smaller and smaller. The platform wants to increase education in science, technology, engineering, and math, and make it a national priority.
Their plan for economic reform is to reform taxes. The platform wants to give tax cuts to the middle class, and make sure that no one gets a tax increase earning under $250,000 a year. They also want to help out the housing market and try to prevent foreclosures. As for energy and oil, the platform wants to help the economy both by creating jobs and making those jobs, jobs that are invested in newer energy projects. The democratic platform also believes that we need to lower gas prices, and reduce foreign reliance on oil.
To prevent future terror a problem, the platform wants to meet them head on, and work with it’s alliances with other countries to prevent anything like 9/11 from happening again. They want to use this to help end the war in Iraq and focus on terrorism. As for immigration, the platform wants to help secure our boarders, and make them more efficient by making better technologies and having better personal for them.
Now for the Democratic Parties candidate, Barock Obama, has the chance at being the first African American to be the President of the United States. He has many plans that are like McCain’s plans. Like McCain, Obama has many plans to help, educations, the economy, the energy and oil reliance of foreign countries, and the war on terror and immigration.
Barock obama, wants to do a lot with education, but a lot of it involves raised taxes and money, lots of it. Obama is trying to push and emphasize on the teachers, and younger education. He’s pushing towards getting younger kids into pre-school sooner and get them learning sooner, so that their intelligence is increased. But like I said, a lot of these programs have to do with taxes, and without the raising of taxes, most of these ideas for new programs to better education will not be able to be achieved. Obama has the plan for college too, planning on helping pay for it, that is. His and Biden’s plan to make college more affordable, is to pay for the first $4,000 dollars for most students going to college, and trying to make community college free for many students.
As for the economy, Obama says that the problem with the economy right now, is that while everything is soaring in prices, peoples pay checks seem to stay the same. He also says that President Bush’s tax cuts were given to the wealthy, that “those who earn over $1 million dollars a tax cut nearly 160 times greater than that received by middle-income Americans.” So to counteract this, Obama and Biden want to “jump start” the economy with a lot of work. They are planning on giving all working families a $1,000 rebate on their taxes, and try to get, and provide $50 billion, to jumpstart the economy and keep at least 1million working Americans from losing their jobs.
They also want to provide tax relief for middle class citizen, by providing working families with a tax cut, eliminating income tax for seniors earning less than $50,000 a year, and simplifying tax fillings by making many of them computerized, thus saving trees, that don’t need to be cut down. Obama and Biden want to open up the trade system, and make it more profitable for Americans. They plan on amending the “North American Free Trade”, “end tax breaks to those companies that send jobs overseas”, and “reward companies that support American workers.”
Another way they plan to get the economy going is by, “Investing in the Manufacturing Sector and create 5 million jobs.” Obama and Biden want to invest in “clean energy” and add to making those 5 million jobs more of a reality. Basically everything they want to do to help the economy involves cleaner jobs to help keep the economy cleaner and make it better, for future generations.
Obama and Biden, Obama’s VP, like their party want to invest in making jobs that deal with new energies. They say they want to promote hybrid cars, and try to make at least 10% of energy usage, come from renewable energies. They also want to stop the dependence on foreign oil within 10 years. Obama and Biden also want to create 10 million green jobs, helping both the economy and our oil dependence.
As for the war on terror and immigration, Obama wants to invest in a “21st century military.” He wants to expand it and make it more productive. Obama also say that he wants to restore our alliances and restore readiness for our armed forces. Like McCain, his platform and the democratic platform, Obama believes our boarders need to be strengthened. He wants to make incentives for those who promote legal Americans getting jobs, and punish those who promote the immigration problem.
In my opinion, both of these candidates are qualified to be President. But even though McCain has more experience in politics and the government, Obama seems to have a better, broader plan. A plan that over sees McCain’s plans, and exceed them. Even though our county is in a major crisis, I believe that Obama is better suited to run this country. I think that Obama’s plans are better and have more branches for us to use to our advantage. And that McCain’s plans are to narrow for our country right now, so in my opinion I believe that Obama will be better suited as of now.
