A review of the 2008 presidential elections between Barack Obama and John McCain.
In the 2008 National United States elections, Barack Obama, for president, and Joe Biden, for vice president, were running on the Democratic Party side of the tickets. The Republican side was taken by John McCain for president, and Sarah Palin for vice president. The democratic party won.
Some say the democratic party won over the republican party in a landslide. People think this because of the electoral votes at the end of the campaign. In the electoral votes, at the end of the elections, Barack Obama beat John McCain by at least 150 votes. At the time when Barack Obama gained the required 270 minimum amount of electoral votes they have to get to be elected, John McCain only had about 120 electoral votes. This is because Obama won most of the big states. He had California, Florida, and New York in his pocket. It would’ve been impossible for John McCain to catch up to him, while he possessed the votes of those three states, even though John McCain did get the vote of Texas, which counted for a lot for him. Not enough though, when it comes to electoral votes. It was said that even Arizona was considering changing parties to the Democratic party, even though John McCain is their senator. Even though all this was going down, if the reader looks at the review, they will notice that McCain didn’t do so bad when it came down to popular votes. He actually lost 47% to 52%. That is really close considering what the end results were in the electoral votes! My opinion is that McCain could’ve done a lot better earlier in the campaign, and maybe he could’ve picked a better VP candidate, and then he would’ve done a lot better than he actually did. He should’ve focused more on big states that Obama won, like Florida, or California. Then he would’ve had a really good chance of winning the election. Nevertheless, all we can do is hope that Obama will really bring change that he talked about, and hope that he won’t screw up his plans and the country just because he is “inexperienced”.
