This is a speech I wrote before the 2008 election in the point of view of President Barack Obama. All of the facts are true, and this is why he was elected our first African American President.

As the election for the next president of the United States approaches, you will need to make an important decision; a vote for change, or a vote to continue in the path that is putting this country on a downward spiral. Today, we find ourselves in a crisis. A crisis that if isn’t changed, will put us in an even deeper hole. I will give this change. A change that you can believe in.

The United States is currently struggling financially and is hurting everyone. I can help fix that. With my new tax plans, the middle class will see a major decrease. Peoples making under $200,000 a year, or combined household income of $250,000, will all benefit from this tax cut, much greater than the tax cuts of Senator McCain. McCain plans to lower the taxes of the upper class, a tax cut that is not necessary because of the cuts that the Bush administration has given. Also, I will help small companies by eliminating all capital gains taxes on small businesses and startups. My trade policy is one that will offer and support American jobs, and promote the good labor that America has around the entire world. My plan to jumpstart the economy will save the jobs of more than a million Americans, and will help prevent the state and local cuts in health, education, housing, and heating assistance.

The war in Iraq is another crisis in the United States. With the lives of innocent people being lost, and a war that is no longer necessary for the benefit of the country, we must pull out of Iraq responsibly and end this war. Although I appreciate all that our troops have done, I have opposed this war since the start, and as the President of the United States, I promise to end this war. I plan to pull the troops out of Iraq, but I plan to do so responsibly. Under the Bush administration, the Iraqi government has not been accountable, and needs to start governing the country that they call their own. Over a million families and troops have been affected by this war, and the deployment in Iraq still continues. Pulling the troops out of Iraq is not as easy of a task as it may seem. We must be as careful pulling the troops out of Iraq as we getting were careless into this war. Under my plan, we will pull one to two brigades out of Iraq each month, leaving the government of Iraq completely responsible by the summer of 2010. We will leave a residual force in Iraq, protecting the US embassies and personnel from terroristic acts. My opponent, on the other hand, plans to have the troops remain in Iraq, and continue spending more than 10 billion dollars a month on the War in Iraq. Throughout the long years of the war, our military equipment has been wearing out and is becoming weaker, leaving our soldiers in even more danger than they are already in.

With American families struggling financially, the need for a higher level education is becoming necessary, but is currently too expensive for many American families. Under my plan, the government will offer up to $4000 in funding in exchange for community service, making the tuition costs for Universities and colleges much cheaper, and making the tuition for small community colleges close to free. Also, I plan to make the process for filing for financial aid much easier and quicker. I also plan to reform the No Child Left Behind act, which forces teachers to teach solely for the purpose of a standardized test. I will improve these assessments, and accurately measure the student’s readiness for college and independence in the working world. My opposition plans to continue the no child left behind act, and wants to continue the curriculum that the teachers are now teaching, based on the standardized tests.

If you elect me as your next president of the United States, I will provide hope and help make this country the pest that it can be. The decision is yours, and I hope you make the correct decision, as I will make this country a better country. Vote for me, Barack Obama, and my running mate, Joe Biden, as your next president and vice president of the United States of America!
