Abortion to me is not a crime, I believe it is an individual’s choice, and is allowed under certain circumstances. These are the things that I will be viewing on abortion: Aids victims, teenage pregnancy,  drug addicts, rape victims, you were told by a doctor that the your baby is going to be disabled, a married person who was unfaithful and getting pregnant as a result (Adultery), doctors opinions on abortion and last but not least legalizing abortion. Although you can be taking a risk with your life doing an abortion, even by doing this you may end up not able to have another child. I never saw it in the Bible.  Many times I will ask myself why people would want to have an abortion but when I really sat down and read an article on it my whole perspective has changed, because I think many people do it for many different reasons. I am going to elaborate on all of those topics during the rest of my essay.

AIDS

Let’s elaborate on Aids victims for a second, should a person who found out that she has aids do an abortion?  I think it’s your decision whether you want to take an abortion or not. Personally speaking I think if you get pregnant and you know that you have aids you shouldn’t bring that child in to this world because there is a strong possibility that the child will be born with the disease, and there are two reasons why I think that abortion would be the right thing to do in this case: one, knowing that the child will be fighting that disease for the rest of their lives and two, that you might not be able to afford to take care of it financially. So my opinion is the mother should definitely take the abortion right away for the sake of the child.

Teenage Pregnancy

Let’s speculate on teenage pregnancy. My opinion on a teenager doing abortion at age 13 or 14, is, quite frankly, that they are still a child themselves, and I am not sure that their bodies are really prepared for what they are about to encounter. They are not emotionally ready for motherhood, either.

Another reason would be that it may ruin their lives in terms of losing the opportunity to go to college and pursue a career, in some cases the parents advise the child to take the abortion because they are looking out for their child. So I think doing the abortion would be the right choice.

Can a woman at age 60 risk her life to give birth to a child? Think of the consequences, at age 70 that child will be one year old, and secondly there is no guarantee that you are going to live long enough to see that child grow up to be an adult, it’s like having your own grandchild.

Rape victims

I wouldn’t blame any person who has been raped and unfortunately ends up getting pregnant, most naturally they don’t want to keep the child; especially if it was more than one man who did it, so they had an abortion. Personally I would have done it in a heart beat, without even thinking about it no matter how much it cost. When a woman gets raped they more than likely end up going to a physiologist  and in most cases they are unable to keep a relationship because it haunts them for the rest of their lives. Some times the victims have nightmares about the rape over and over again. Knowing that you don’t know the person who raped you I would classify as an unwanted pregnancy.

Disabled Child

Le’ts say that you get pregnant and you went to your doctors appointment and then the doctor told you that the child you are carrying is going to be a vegetable, would you do an abortion? I would because that child would need more special care than a normal child and it may be a strain for you to take care of the child financially for the rest of their lives. I think if you decide not to bring that child into the world you shouldn’t have any regrets whether you should have gone through with the abortion or not.

Adultery

What is adultery? It is defined as voluntary sexual intercourse between a married man and a woman with some one other than his or her spouse. Experts disagree on precisely what infidelity entails. It certainly means being unfaithful to your spouse. When a woman commits adultery and gets ends up getting pregnant in the process knowing that her husband cannot produce children, she ends up doing an abortion because she feels that it may be one way she could save her marriage.

Doing Drugs

There are a lot of different types of drugs you can be addicted to and the most common one is crack cocaine which can mess with your brain among other things. Don’t you think that being a drug addict you shouldn’t get pregnant? If this happens the first thing you should think about is that unborn child. Having a child would be a financial strain on you because all your money goes into drugs. A woman who found herself in that situation should terminate the pregnancy. Why? Because we can assume that there is a possibility the child will be born with a birth defect. Also, a drug addict is emotionally and usually financially incapable of supporting and raising a child.

Smoking

Smoking may increase your risk for untold serious condition including cancer, emphysema, bronchial disorders, and cardiovascular disease. You know that smoking is bad for your health. Think about what it can do to your unborn child.

A Doctor’s Point of View

Dr William Rashbaum says that abortion is a decision between you and your Doctor. Early abortion methods have advanced. The aspiration procedure and the abortion pill are the safest, gentle and natural methods of early abortion. These non-surgical methods are simple to complete and can be offered in a regular doctor’s office by primary care doctors. They are just as effective and have fewer complications than surgical abortion.

“Recently we had a patient who had given a history of being a ‘pro-life’ activist, but who had decided to have an abortion. She was pleasant to me and our initial discussion was mutually respectful. Later, she told someone on my staff that she thought that abortion is murder, that she is a murderer, and that she is murdering her baby. So before doing her procedure, I asked her if she thought abortion is murder – the answer was yes. I asked her if she thought I was a murderer, and if she thought I was murdering her baby, and she said yes. But murder is a crime…and she became angry and hostile, and the summary of the conversation was that she regarded me as an abortion-dispensing machine, and how dare I ask her what she thinks. After explaining to her that I do not perform abortions for people who think I am a murderer or people who are angry at me, I declined to provide her with medical care. I do not know whether she found someone else to do her abortion” [Physician, Colorado, this clip was found on the internet].

Dr Warren Henn, author of the latest term abortion medical text said to do this was called a “Version & breech delivery”. “This was abandoned decades ago as it was dangerous. Instead today the much safer, cesarean section is used. I would dispute any statement that it is the safest procedure to use. The procedure can cause amniotic fluid embolism or placental abortion” [AMA News. Nov. 20, 1995].

Dr Pamela Smith, Director of Medical Education, Dept. of Ob Gyn at Mt Sinai Hospital in Chicago, has stated: “There are absolutely no obstetrical situations encountered in this country which would require a partial birth abortion to preserve the life or health of the mother”. She add two more risks; cervical incompetence in subsequent pregnancies caused by three days of forceful dilation of the cervix, and uterine rupture caused by rotating the fetus in the womb. Joseph DeCook, Fellow, Am.Col., Ob/Gyn founder of PHACT [Physicians Ad Hoc Coalition for truth], stated; “There is no literature that testifies to the safety of partial birth abortion. It’s a maverick procedure devised by maverick doctors who wish to deliver a dead fetus. Such abortions could lead to infections and cause sterility. Also, “Drawing out the baby in breech position as a very dangerous procedure and could tear the uterus, such a ruptured uterus cause the mother to bleed to death in ten minutes.” [Congressman Charles Canady [R-FL] 7/23].

Legalizing Abortion

Roe V. Wade was the most controversial and politically significant cases in U.S. Supreme Court history. It legalized abortion and found it to be a fundamental right under the United States Constitution [“Roe vs. Wade”. Wikipedia.org].

After Roe V. Wade, abortion became legal in 1973. It has become the most actively litigated and highly publicized subject in the field of medicine [Trupin, Suzanne. “Elective Abortion”. eMedicine]. Nevertheless, abortion is legal and available.

In conclusion, women have a right to terminate their pregnancy if they choose to do so. And there shouldn’t be a law to prevent them from doing that, but by it being legalized, that doesn’t mean a woman should use it as a form of contraceptive, I think that wrong. The longer you wait to terminate the pregnancy the more expensive it is and the more dangerous it is. When doing an abortion do it when it is in its early stage. It’s much cheaper and the safest way to do the procedure.
