An American in todays America, hoping to change what needs to be changed.

The United States has been in a downward spiral for the last eight years.

The Iraq war has killed thousands of our American troops, caused financial devastation to our economy and taken our status in this world down a few notches.

Large U.S. Companies have chose to move operations overseas, leaving a trail of unemployment lines.

American housing has started to fall and there is no realistic measure of time as to when we will “hit bottom”.

We have communities that have been devastated by natural disaster, and have been all but forgotten by most.

While poverty lines are based on the economic conditions that were factored decades ago, many of our citizens forego medical care in an effort to maintain a place to call home and not go to bed on an empty stomach.

We rely on other countries to invest in us, while we incur more debt on a daily basis.

Our police and fire fighters, use outdated, damaged equipment and protective gear because our soldiers- those fighting to defend the rights of citizens in other countries- have priority for the material Kevlar, that is used in this equipment and gear.

Constitutional Amendments are made, and our freedoms are chisled away. No longer is free speech, truly Freedom of Speech. We have lived in a state of fear, and forgotten about prosperity.

We spend hours in an airport line, with signs around us that direct us to inform security of suspicious individuals. We no longer pack comforts of home in our suit cases, because they are listed as potential dangers.

There is no magical cure to restore our society to where it was a decade ago. There isn’t a need to wait for legislature to decide how to change these things. The answer is in simple common sense. Something many have forgotten.

If Americans would simply use their mouths to speak, they would be heard in unison. Instead, we stifle the words with bites of a Big Mac. Our thoughts are not those of the individual, but those of the media. Our lives are only in as much danger as we perceive them to be.

We are in a cycle that is going to bring the United States into a new cycle of change. I hope that in this cycle we remember what we have, what we had and make the decision to bring our country back to where we once were. I hope that through the last decade we have been reminded of the importance of our relationships to our communities. That we have endured enough, that our frustrations create a positive future for the next generations.

Life as an American is beautiful.

We just need to be reminded of that.

We need to restructure our definition of poverty based on todays wages compared to todays cost of living.

We need to bring home our troops, so they can be with their families and a part of the country they believe in and promised to defend.

We need to use the materials needed to protect our soldiers, fire fighters and police officers here in the United States, so they can protect our homes and our families.

We need to realize that the danger of a terrorist in our airports is only as dangerous as our imagination allows.

Our companies need to realize that if they produce their products, re-open their customer service centers here in the United States…those employees will once again be their consumers.

We need to control the interest rates, so that those who couldn’t buy a home when the prices were inflated just a few years ago, can buy a home today.

We need to focus on health prevention and not the pill that covers the symptoms, while creating new ailments.

We need to quit allowing those who refuse, or have never contributed to society, drain the Social Security of those that are paying it.

Parents need to read to their children, and not allow television to babysit.

We need to teach children that an education is a privilege-to be respected and not a social scene.

Instead of playing video games, families need to camp, hike and swim together.

Society needs to remember, that musical instruments are learned through talent and time, not from a video screen.

Children should be seen and heard. Parents should be respected.

Government should shop at Wal-Mart and Home Depot, where toilet seats are under twenty dollars.

Accountability by citizens and to citizens.
