The Real Al Sharpton.
We shouldn’t play into Al Sharpeton’s hands and react the way he wants us to. He knows his comments are inflammatory, this is what he does. If we say he is a racist, then we are racist, and he has proven his point, funny how he uses the same racist media to get his point across. I prefer to call him a fake, a disgrace to the title Reverend.
He has made himself rich and famous by inciting people, Al’s trick is apportioning the blame elsewhere. Giving people excuses for their circumstances; black people are in poverty because of racism (white people). He hides behind his title of Reverend, but all he is, is a political opportunist, riding on the back of other people’s problem’s, causes, and sometimes successes to generate media attention for himself. He dishonoured the memory of Michael Jackson by making these comments. Michael never marginalised or excluded anyone from listening to his music. Remember, Al “it don’t matter if you’re black or white”. Let me take some time to remind you Al, what your true calling is supposed to be, as a Reverend!
A Reverend has the responsibility of looking after the spiritual wellbeing of his flock, preaching the gospel, and saving people’s souls. This is to be done in a humble and selfless way, teaching the gospel is a calling. Al falls way short on this point, enjoying the adoration of his followers, many of whom use his movement, I refuse to call it a church, as a front for their own political/ racist motives. Many of his followers have ties to the Nation of Islam, Black Panthers etc. In fact, Al has refused to distance himself from these groups and their unchristian beliefs. Jesus was moved by compassion to heal people’s lives, showing them there was a way out. How? Jesus first instruction to the apostles before he ascended into heaven, was to preach the gospel, making disciples of ALL nations .This message will cause men and women to be pricked in their hearts, this conviction brings about repentance. After repentance, disciples are baptised and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, which allows them to in turn save souls as well. I am sure the Apostle’s doctrine is not foreign to Al, however, I am sure it is foreign to a lot of his followers. The message that Jesus died on the Cross of Calvary to cancel out our sins, rose from the dead three days later, thereby defeating the power of sin and death, granting all who believe in Him eternal life should be central to what Al teaches.
Al has lost track of his first responsibility, his message has become humanistic, forgetting the gospel. He has committed himself to serving so-called public interests (read, his own) and not God’s interests. Using a title or position, given to you by others, to achieve your own ideals is misrepresentation. The office of reverend has been abused too long by Al Sharpeton to achieve a public platform for his own promotion. He is by all accounts a wolf in sheep’s clothing. My message to you, Al: give up the title of Reverend, you’re doing it more harm than good.
Or take heed to what Michael said: If you want to HEAL THE WORLD, start with the MAN IN THE MIRROR.
