Thoughts on the upcoming election what it means to the country?
You cannot escape it. The advent of the internet, newspapers, the 24 hour news stations, talk radio hosts, everywhere you go you hear Obama/Biden, McCain/Palin. There is so much sensory overload has it turned us blind to voting for the president. It seemed so much easier when we only could rely on exit polls or when a convention mattered. As we near the end of what has seemed to be the never ending campaigning can we all now just get down to the buisness of getting into the booth and making our choice.
Whichever party you support or your position on the war we have seemed to lost the historical significance of voting for the most powerful man in the world. The extremists in each party have hurt the political machine so much that I fear we may never get it back to where it was less than 50 years ago when a young John Kennedy pulled the nation together with Camelot and the New Frontier. Think about all the issues of the day, you know what they are I will not recite them yet again. All this will lay at the feet of next man who will hold the highest office in the land.
We have a near critical need to unite as a country as the nation did with Kennedy and pull ourselves up by
the proverbial bootstraps and pull this nation out of the black hole we have let it sink into because we have let TV and radio do our thinking for us and let them shape our opinions. The course the country will take will depend on the social unity of us who elects this person and not on the person we elect. It almost seems unfair to blame our outcome on the shoulders of the man we put into this office.
