My opinion about America’s Health problems.
Help me here but why do Americans put up with a substandard health system, where you have to hope like hell your insurance will pay for your treatment. I have watched the documentary “Sicko” and was so annoyed that the politicians could be paid off by the insurance companies.
I am perplexed coming from Australia where we pay to have a medicare system. Everyone is covered including those not on incomes. Of course we use insurance also for those that wish to have selected doctors, private hospitals etc and those that are on high incomes but mostly there is no hole that someone can fall in and choose which finger he will save in an accident. If you have no money you will still get treatment. Now its also my understanding that England has a superior health system, Canada and France also.
America is going broke with a system that does not work and no one seems to be coming up with a better solution other than cutting costs. Is it not time that a new system is put in place replacing all that is there now and covering all Americans.
It can be done if the politicians think without a paycheck vote.

Most Americans wonder the same thing. Why can’t we have a health system that WORKS? Our leaders seem to be so obsessed in their own concerns that they forget that they are suppose to be representing THE PEOPLE, and working for their best interest. It is a sad situation, that America is no longer seen as the land of Freedom and opportunity. We are all struggling to simply survive. A HEALTHY COUNTRY, IS A HAPPY COUNTRY.”. I read those words somewhere, and I think they have a lot of meaning to them. If we have a country full of sick people, how are we expected to progress?
Dear Ladybaby, “Freedom and opportunity” i think this is like a gum in the mouth. You expect from most politicians to realy care about you? On which planet do you live? I am sorry if i use hard words but this is the truth as i understand it. And there is no need to open our eyes and see what is realy happening just near us and sudenly discover all the problems around when we one day may too be in a trouble. When we will lost our warm sofa and nice home. If that is happening it is late and the surprize will be great. About the medicare system in my country (Greece) realy sucks. Corruption, money that noone knows where they go, bad payed doctors, bad organization and many others. But that doesn’t mean that in a realy serious health problem you will have to chose which finger you will keep, even if you don’t have insurance. And also that bad payed doctors who many times take money behind the system by patients or pharmacy companies they become heroes (many of them, not all) in front of a realy serious situation.
In America anyone can get health care. Just go by any major hospital and see how many illegal immigrants are receiving free health care at the law abiding tax payers expense. I work in a hospital in the Seattle area and am well aware of the taxpayers burden in paying for healthcare for those who do not work or are in the country illegally As an already overburdened Taxpayer, I do not want to have to payout any more in taxes to provide health care for those who have not nor will not contribute to society. If someone is disabled or quite elderly and unable to work,I have no problem with paying taxes for their benefit, but if someone chooses not to be a productive member of society they cannot expect society to provide for them.As a health care worker I am well aware of the sense of entitlement that many people have. I have worked hard as a single mom to care for my family and to obtain the education to advance. Why should I have to pay for health care for those who are not willing to work to better themselves and provide for themselves?
Jamie i posted it not about a health system paid for the poor but everyone to be covered to make it fairer. In Australia we pay something like 1.5% of our incomes and those that are on over $150,000 pay another .5%. Every Australian has a medicare card, and that means our treatment in hospitals is free. If you are old or on the pension you dont pay the percentage and your medication is rebated higher than those that work. But even if your work most of your medication is rebated to about $23. Illegals dont have medicare so they are not covered but its not a fragmented system where people feel they have a right to be treated over the next person. Its where it pays for itself and everyone can sleep well at night knowing if they get sick they can get help.
My mother has cancer and is american. The disability and social security with medicade does not pay for her treatments of chemo. It also did not pay for her colon removal. She is in huge debt since it paid so very little of it so far. She would have been dead since most doctors refused her treatment due to lack of funds and not getting paid for treating her. If not for one very kind doctor my mother would be like many americans in ways of death due to usa health care being so very froggin american.
Funny and sad most americans are not wise enough to know they country and system is such a sad joke. I am of the americans but I am so very lucky I got out finally. I live in europe but have great guilt for being let to live such a life while my family has to stay in the states. I never did dig the usa but my family is there. I did an article on health care at opps.se and got really bad comments from americans of course. It is sad they are so rude and can be so stupid. There are a few with brains out there in the usa and I pitty them for they must hate it there as I always did.
