Noted author and atheist dances deftly around the topic of Jewish domination over American media while calling for Sanchez’s return to CNN.

As the Jon Stewart vs Rick Sanchez story continues to unfold, a well worn and highly regarded voice of reason has entered the fray, that of Christopher Hitchens.  While continuing to battle the cancer ravaging his body, Hitchens makes time to call on Stewart and others in the liberal media to demand Sanchez be hired back by CNN.  The news network abruptly fired Sanchez after the CNN anchor made some disparaging remarks against Stewart.  The Comedy Central news parody host had often utilized clips of Sanchez to great effect, though clearly at Sanchez’s expense.

In a radio interview last week, an exasperated Sanchez called Jon Stewart a bigot, and indicated that prejudice exists on both the political right and left of America.  Sanchez, who is a Cuban American, went on to explain that the East Coast liberalism that dominates such networks as CNN, often practices a subtle brand of bigotry against those like himself who do not fit entirely with that liberal view.  Sanchez went on to indicate the Jewish dominance of the news media, though also qualified that by stating that Jews did understand oppression, while also indicating some liberal American Jews were now practicing a form of oppression on others.

Soon the comments were widely dispersed by other media outlets, and CNN responded by both denouncing the Sanchez statements, and firing Sanchez from the network. Here are Christopher Hitchens’ most recent comments regarding the incident:

In the manner in which Sanchez spoke, also, there was something like a buried resentment. He didn’t descend into saying that there was Jewish control of the media, but he did imply that liberalism was linked to a single ethnicity. Still, there is nothing criminal about this, and the speed of his firing, like the other recent abrupt disappearances of Laura Schlessinger and Octavia Nasr, seems to suggest a network system that cares only about playing safe and avoiding “offense.” The best way to demonstrate the hidden influence of the chosen people would be for Jon Stewart and others to join me in calling for Rick Sanchez’s reinstatement. If it then didn’t happen, it would help us understand who really pulls the strings around here.

Will CNN heed the request by Hitchens?  For now the news network has given no indication of doing so.  As for Christopher Hitchens, he appears quite determined to continue providing his to the point brand of insightful commentary for as long as mind and body allow him to do so.
