What happens when the 1st amendment is set aside? Read and find out.

The Iraq War is now extremely unpopular and hated by many, but if it was that unpopular, how did we get into this war in the first place? That’s the question that I asked myself several times. Is it because of the causalities and the lack of weapons of mass destructions? That’s what I had thought, but then I asked myself, if there were no weapons of mass destruction, why didn’t anybody try to say so or even attempt an investigation to make sure before we got ourselves into this mess? Well, eventually I found out.

Most of the journalists who didn’t question the government were trying to get the top stories by going with the flow and the ones who tried to speak up were ignored and sometimes silenced. The result? We have created a communism before the Iraq War began. The press became merely just a puppet of the government, spitting out propaganda like mad and not asking questions.

But if you think that I’m here to make an anti-war article, you are sadly mistaken. Remember that the U.S. is still a government of the people. WE let this happen, WE didn’t stand up when WE had the chance, and WE sacrificed our 1st amendment for protections against a country that wasn’t attacking us in the first place. So, now we could do one of two things: we can either live in the past and let history repeat itself, or we can learn from this mistake. The more we let others do the thinking, the more trouble that we’re letting ourselves into. We must exercise our 1st amendment because that’s the only thing keeping us from becoming a communism or fascism.

But Remember, that even if you have a right, remember NOT to abuse it. This country is made up of 300 million people, all of whom have the same rights that you do. There’s a reason why yelling “fire” when there is no fire is illegal. Remember to use your 1st amendment to argue against pointless and/or foolish laws, not to argue foolishly and pointlessly. The 1st amendment is a lot like the 2nd. The 2nd amendment was made for two reasons: so that civilians can protect themselves, and also so that civilians could make a militia to fight either outside invaders or their own government if it suddenly loses its democracy.

<P Obliviously the 2nd amendment is not to be abused because the misuse of guns can hurt and even kill. In the same way, the misuse of words and letters can also hurt and even kill. It’s kind of like in Spiderman 1 when Peter’s uncle tells Peter that “with great power, comes great responsibilities.” The pen is mightier than the sword because with a pen, people can command the sword. If you don’t use the 1st amendment with honor, compassion, and respect, I rather have you not use it at all.

Oh yeah, here’s one last note. War has it’s pro’s and con’s, the biggest con being the loss of lives. Don’t insult the soldiers because they are the ones suffering, sacrificing, and dieing. Don’t insult the commanders because they are trying their best and have enough on their hands without us civilians bothering them. Don’t insult at all, because we should be respectful and respect should be what keeps us separate from others. Don’t hate anybody. Will hate bring anybody back to life? Will hate end the war sooner? NO! Don’t hate.

Hate brought us into war, but forgiveness can bring us out. And when we forgive, we should never forget so the mistake will never be repeated over again. And remember never to be a bystander and never to simply let bad things happen because if you’re not trying stopping bad things from happening, you might as well be the one making the bad things happening.
