Everybody is in an uproar over where the weather is heading lately. Let’s take a look at the overall picture. Here are a few abstract thoughts to mull over.
Everybody is in an uproar over where the weather is heading lately. Let’s take a look at the overall picture.
Every day we hear about how the weather is getting worse and worse. The biggest difference about the weather today and in the past is we hear about more weather than in the past. We get weather updates twenty-four hours a day from all over the world. Not to demean the forecasters but every event is hyped to get the maximum exposure.
It is just weather folks. We seem to have forgotten that when we were younger the weather changed too. There was heat, cold and wet weather back then too. A storm of two to three feet of snow was a given when I was younger. Our parents were grateful for the added insulation. We also had summer days when it was too hot to go to the beach. Can you imagine that?
All of these tornadoes lately have gotten forecasters scratching their heads, wondering where the winds are coming from. One possible source is the recent earthquake in December 2005. This event caused one of the earth’s plates to rise causing a change in water currents and the height of the currents, thereby affecting wind current. When a part of the earth’s crust moves, it has to have an effect.
Another topic I want to hit on is all the talk about climate warming. We have seen a different kind of weather since this topic came to light. There is a distinct coolness in the air. Some scientists have attributed this to a lack of sun spots. It seams sun spots have a cause and effect on our weather. The more activity on the suns surface the more heat is sent our way, the less activity the less heat we feel from our sun. All in all, this can be attributed to the cycle our sun goes through every eleven years.
I have witnessed here in Maine a lessening of storm impact during the winter months. Some of this can be attributed to more wind coming out of the north, namely Canada. This causes the wet weather to keep to the south of Maine, also meaning more snow in the Massachusetts and New York areas. This also means more cold weather for us in the north. Will it continue? Who knows, we can only wait for the future to find out.
I have a thermometer on the south side of my house which always shows warmer temperature than the actual outside air temperature. Today is February twenty fourth at one twenty P.M. and it reads eighty-eight degrees. The actual outside temperature is around thirty-five degrees. This is further proof of the suns effect on our planet.
So in conclusion, I submit the weather is not only changing, it is always and forever going to change regardless of what we mere mortals do to impact it.
