Back to School?

Number one there are certain things that people should know, you may qualify for assistance providing you had already begun your college courses and have spent at least one semester in full time classes, and you must have obtained a passing grade for that semester. Anything less than that and you do not qualify for this help promised by President Obama.

Number two if you are a female parent with young children that meet the above qualifications you will stand a better chance and placed above all others, males and those without children for benefits to assist you through school.

If you don’t qualify under any of the above criteria’s you are totally on your own. But wait you can’t just go out here and think you will get a job anymore. You must have a high school diploma just to get a job working in a fast food place or even a factory job. So do you think you can get a job with an AA Degree?

A job that most people would apply for just to get their foot in the door to a better job such as working in the office of a hospital or as what once was called a candy striper, whose duties were to hand out linens, magazines and some times fruit drinks, some even cleaned bed pans and made beds in the hospitals are no longer available to students with an AA degree, much less a high school diploma, as one student found out in Muskogee Oklahoma.

Ms. Moreno 29 of Northridge California moved to Muskogee Oklahoma to take care of her best friend while finishing her college education in the medical field. She is divorced with no children and in California she worked in a private medical practice as a Physician’s Medical Assistant. In Oklahoma she was turned down for every medical position she applied for because she didn’t have her degree yet, that was two years ago. This summer she finished school and earned her AA Degree in medical so she went to see about getting a job to help pay back her loans while going back and getting her Bachelors Degree in Medical Management. Even the Temp Agencies told her there is no job in any medical field that will touch her with just an AA Degree; Ms. Moreno cried and I can’t blame her.

The job Ms. Moreno has pays minimum wage and barely pays her rent and bills to live on. She like so many others now has thousands of dollars she owes for her education which at this point in time is worthless. She is now faced with the choices of quitting school to get another job with more hours just to pay these loans off or to rack up even more thousands on top of the thousands she already owes in the hope of obtaining the better job she thought she would get with the AA Degree to help keep her going.

Ironically if she had had little children her schooling would have cost less but unfortunately I don’t think the end results of finding a job would be any different. So what is all this hype about going back to school when there are no jobs for those that are? Where is the better job opportunities promised to them by President Obama? Why is it an AA Degree in medical can’t get a student in to the medical field on the ground floor jobs?

I suggest that if you are suffering the same situations contact your government representatives and start making major complaints, and demand that if our President continues to discriminate against people with little to no education then he had better start making jobs available for those that have, and are obtaining the education he commands everyone to obtain.
