Bailout Fallout

Is the government to blame for the fallout from such an inclusive plan? Did they fail to cover all the bases? Is this just politics as usual? I think not.
President Obama recently got a slap in the face from the corporate world. AIG took the boatload of bailout money they were given and turned it into a bonus package for their greedy executives. Is it a riddle why such a beholden corporation with such a huge financial impact on the world could do such a thing? No. The corporate world has been given the key to the financial world with the faceless lack of responsibilty that corporate law has created. The bailout is an opportunity for the “fatcats” to fall from grace publicly and disgracefully. The politicians who signed this bill into play may not have expected such a bold gesture from those self-indulgent, arrogant, greedy, and gluttenous savages, but they will now be given a field on which they can beat them at the games they play.
There are many clichés one could use to describe this debauchery. Break a few eggs… A few bad apples… and so on. Whatever trite expression used, no matter. The jig is up, corporate America and AIG just gave back the keys. Politicians in Washington and all over the U.S. will have to listen to the “average Joe” now. There is no way Americans are going to sit back and watch these giant companies take their hard earned tax dollars so a few people who consider themselves to be at the top of the food chain can get millions of dollars in bonuses. NOT ANY MORE!
Now, we all know that this bailout was ridiculous and over the top, but it was necessary. President Obama inherited the most gargantuan mountain of hurdles to overcome and this was simply his way of saying, “I will do whatever it takes.” Now he can move on to pinpointing those that have abused the system to the point of collapse and erradicate them from said system. Soon, we will all be able to move on from these tough times and get on with our lives. This will simply be called an example of the President’s ability to sort things out and get on with the program.
As for politics as usual, there aren’t many politicians out there willing to throw away the careers they have built being “in the pockets” of the fatcats. Oh, there will be those that think they can get away with it, and there will even be those that will. However, America is on guard now, not so carefree anymore. These “corporatiers” will be weeded out from the rest and be replaced one-by-one. This action will not come from Barack Obama, but the populous, the voters. Welcome to a new era, a new government, a new United States! All the fithy rich fatcats will soon be held accountable for their actions rather than hidden behind a pile of money. All the money in the world cannot begin to console the people of our great nation. Our new war is to be with the corporations. Battle stations, everyone!

I agree america is having hard times and the goverment doesnt seem to ge the picture americans i dont think will take it much longer i like your work and the journalism style god bless
I guess there’s no room for failure now. Is either do or die, like they say. If the richer continue to get richer and the poorer get poorer than a depression is not the only thing that will happen in the near future.
JL,
Very well presented article. I agree that the CEO’s and boards should be run out on a rail. However, I must add one point. It was at the gov’s hands that this was allowed. Dodd took more money from AIG than any other politician and got housing sweetheart deals. So, it is no wonder that HE put the wording in for AIG to still get their bonuses. People seem to think that I am taking up for corp America, but I am not! I am just pointing out that the blame starts at the very top (gov) and trickles all the way down to the patrons of these companies.
I have to agree with Jo here. We as a nation need the corporations. We also need politicians. It is the mutual back scratching that needs to end, for that in itself is corrupt.
I never intended for people to think that we don’t need the corporations or the politicians. It is the ways that they abuse the system that I have a hard time with. These “corporations” build up these hugely overrated asset portfolios, give out gigantic bonuses, then file for bankruptcy shortly after. I worked for a company a few years back that did this same thing, even taking my pension and benefits along with others’.
