What will the political fallout be if and when Hillary decides to go for the throat?
As we edge ever closer to the Democrat Convention, at which the Democrat Candidate for President will be dubbed, victory seems to be slipping through Hillary’s fingers. Hillary, as we all know does not like to lose. In fact, many people have said that even if she loses the primaries she may swing the nomination with super-delegates at the convention. The real question is what will happen if she does? Obama has seen popularity and a fan following normally reserved for drugged up rock stars and air headed actors. Many in the black community not only support him, but closely identify with him. With all of these people putting such a strong emotional investment in Obama, what will happen if they perceive the nomination as having been stolen from him? The answer is twofold and presents an ugly problem for Clinton.
Problem 1
If Clinton sways the nomination process in her favor many Democrat voters will feel betrayed and will throw their support to a third party candidate or simply stay home. Leagues of Americans will be disenfranchised and Hillary’s legacy will be one of party division, and dirty tricks.
Problem 2
As we have seen in the past, when large numbers of people feel cheated and disenfranchised, with no hope of legal redress, they riot. This not only would seal Hillary’s political fate, it would permanently scar the Democrat Party.
So, what’s a girl to do? Hillary can follow her dreams and continue her quest for power at all costs, or she can lie down and let Obama take the nomination. Neither of these are pretty options from HRC’s point of view. If this crisis is to be averted, Obama will need to appeal to Hillary’s mercenary side and offer something big in exchange for bowing out. A court appointment might mollify the beast’s appetite for a while, maybe Ambassador to the UN. At any rate, the only way to deal with the Clintons (as it always has been) is to play ball, offer her a bribe and hope she bites.
Either way, McCain stands to gain from this coming confrontation with no serious competition on his side. Whatever happens, whoever wins (McCain, Clinton, or Obama) I can guarantee this: For at least the next four years, we will have a liberal in the office.
