Britain is Going Through Historical Times

“Rise, Lord Gorbals of Ill Repute”, said the Queen. And “off with his head” she added in an aside to her attendants. But unhappily, the times are not that historic, but rather more tragic. The government is doing everything in its power to discredit the state and its institutions with a lot of help from the opposition.
The United Kingdom is writing momentous history. The first time in a hundred years it was governed (for a week) by a peer of the realm, if you can accept a life peer as the real thing that is. And if you don’t mind that the peer in question is Lord Mandelson of Sleaze, the guy who still can’t answer the question as to where the money for his multimillion pounds villa came from, but is cosying up to just any dubious billionaire on the civilized world’s most wanted list.
But better still, the parliament kicked out the speaker this June, something that last happened 300 years ago. The unlucky titled gentleman at that time quite lost his head over it, literally. Today’s historical figure advanced from Gorbals Mick to become a life peer named Lord Martin of Springburn of Port Dundas in the City of Glasgow. The less they deserve their titles, the longer they get them. I mean, it is deservedly longer than the previous incumbent as the most undeserving peer: Lord Mandelson of Hartlepool and Foy.
It is a known fact that Labour wants to abolish the House of Lords, and they are doing the hell of a job in that direction. They managed to have the peers swamped by the stupid, the criminal, and the incompetent, continuing seamlessly from the Conservatives doing just the same. Four peers were caught in a scandal on receiving money on law issues, commonly called bribery in any other country, whereas in Britain this seems only to amount to misconduct in office. What a joke. These last two peers though really disestablished any belief anybody could still have held in the Lords.
But how momentous and historical are the events taking place? Not at all; the expenses scandal so far has produced no tangible results at all, all the criminal elements, a whopping 649 of 650 incumbents in parliamentary seats are still there, and none of them has been charged, not even with misconduct. The Lord of Sleaze really became a Lord, and the speaker is also elevated for his total lack of morals. And no heads are rolling, though there would be ample cause for the crimes commited to the detriment of the commonwealth.
What should be done? Firstly, what this country needs is a democracy. For those who don’t know what that is: Democracy means that the people rule. With people I mean people, and not parliament, government or other fake institutions. But politicians will do their utmost to prevent this ever happening. And they will call in so called experts to prove why the people should never be allowed to rule. Because they are too stupid, that is why; but they will use many scientific sounding words to hide that information behind.
But for 150 years, one country in the world has shown that the people is not too stupid to rule. In Switzerland, the voters even decide about the taxes they are paying. And it not only works, it works exceedingly well. So well in fact, that Switzerland is usually accused of being a tax haven. But it is only a tax haven to the incompetents who don’t know how to make a budget, like Britain and the US, countries that are unable to work with the money they take from the tax payer. And America doesn’t even have a health system, unlike Switzerland, and no nationally insured pension fund scheme either. Which to me rather proves: Politicians are unable to rule, but the people is not.

That is a very interesting article, my friend. Governing is difficult but equal rights for all is the rule for me. It unfortunately seems so difficult to apply in so many countries…
Thank you for sharing this with us Lucas,
Very best wishes,
François
Interesting article.
Read your title wrongly (honest)
Did you say Britain is going through hysterical times? Mmm, could be right. We are the laughing stock of the world with our powerless PM.
Thanks to both of you; and yes Louie, I had been tempted …
Great article, I couldn’t agree more. It’s so maddening being unable to do anything about all this.
