My take on a recent declaration for a need regarding Quebec independence.

It never ceases to amaze me how Quebecois leaders can call for an independent Quebec whenever an issue arises that they think they have a final solution for. Take the recent economic crisis and how Maoris reacted to it by saying that here Quebec can do better on its own. Even the La Press editor made a reference of how unrealistic that statement was. He pointed out that it is impossible for her to come to such a realization especially when European leaders in existing countries are all fumbling for economic solutions. In other words her statement is short of being idiotic.

Still when it comes to politics you can have a leader still influencing her voter base no matter how unrealistic or fantastic their statements are. She said that by not having to pay taxes to Ottawa there would be more to be spent at home. But where is her sense of the dividends she gets by Quebec staying in confederation. Did she forget that when it comes to subsidies that make day care centers work in the province much of it comes from Ottawa? That is just one example of her wanting to bite the hand that feeds!

The question of an independent was an issue maybe 15 years ago and is not today with around only thirty percent popularity in the polls. So there isn’t a near majority that would back her up and clearly people are not as fervent to see an independent province just because they have to spend less during an economic crisis. The Quebecois Party gets together for the rallies and lauds each other to drum up support for a separate nation. If separatism is such a real issue why not call an election then? The answer is the party knows they wouldn’t win but they just like to beat their breasts!
