Censorship is all around. Is it right or wrong?

Have you ever watched anything on T.V. and thought, ‘Wow, why did they put that on there? There could be kids watching!” Or another might’ve been, “This show is completely edited. It’s like it’s not even the real show.”

These things are the types of censorship that goes on. But it’s not the only kind. In places today, such as North Korea, we are seeing heavy censorship. No one is allowed in, and no one is allowed out. This is a type of censorship that has been used for thousands of years, dating back to feudal ages, where even the Great Wall was used as a way to censor people.

There are many reasons for censorship. For example, say the government has just discovered a lost convict. If we were already in a state of panic, the government has complete right to withhold information from you. In another light, censorship can be very good. In prisons, for example, guards and other staff go through the prisoner’s mail/belongings/etc. This is also censorship. In my opinion, i find it good in the area. If a relative/friend was sending letters on how to escape jail, we can withhold information from said criminal.

As a recent example of censorship, lets try Mexico. As we all know, swine flu is/was sweeping the nation. In America, news about it is ongoing. However, in Mexico things are very censored. Not wanting all of the blame on Mexico, they have censored radio’s and tv. stations from posting comments about it.

Another example of censoring would be Russia. Natives in Russia know well not to speak ill of their country, since, of course, it’s against the law. Freedom of speech there is very limited, unfortunatally.

So before you think straight on, on whether censorship is good or bad, try to think about things happening in other areas, and how it’s going for them.
