Canadian woman suing McDonald’s and Saputo Foods Ltd. because of contaminated coffee.

This may sound unbelievable but it was actually reported by cbc.ca.  Cheryl Mandziak said that she became very ill after drinking a cup of coffee from a McDonald’s outlet at 924 Victoria Ave. East in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

She said that she picked up her usual morning coffee in August, 2008, added her cream and began to drink it.  After consuming about half of the beverage, she found something “round floating in it”.  She must have had the lid on not to have noticed this before, but I am not sure about that.

Mandziak had the rest of her coffee tested in a lab and they found that the coffee was indeed contaminated.  They actually found several contaminants, which included “human feces”.  She is now suing the two companies, McDonald’s and Saputo who supplies the cream for McDonald’s.  She is suing for loss of income, health expenses and other damages.  I do not know how much she is suing them for.

Her claims have yet to be proven and of course McDonald’s and Saputo Foods Ltd. deny her claims.  In a news release held on Tuesday of this week, a spokesperson for McDonald’s said that the allegations are totally without merit and that McDonald’s will vigorously defend its position in court.

Now I do not know if this woman’s claim are true or not, but I do find it odd that she actually drank half of her coffee before she realized that there was something floating around in it.  I’m assuming that the round object that was in her cup must have been fairly small or she would have noticed it sooner.  Did she not taste a difference in her coffee?  I would like to think that if there was human (or any type for that matter) feces in my food or drink that I would notice it immediately.  It makes me feel sick to my stomach just thinking about it.

If her claims are not true, then she is obviously just trying to make herself some quick money from two very large companies, but in the process she is damaging their reputation.  I know that both companies can afford to pay her whatever amount she is suing for, but that is not the point.  You should never try to damage someone’s reputation, whether it is a giant corporation or an individual person.

Sorry about the picture, but I thought it was kind of funny.  Please don’t be offended.
