Desperation

Americans, approximately two million persons, will lose their unemployment benefits starting today.  Yesterday the Congress- Republicans- voted to not extend the emergency unemployment benefits.  Their false concern for the deficit and saving their rich friends by increasing it to over 700 billion dollars has cost the unemployed dearly.

Through no fault of their own, the unemployed are left with no lifeline to hang on to. I know this because I am one of the 99er’s who have been looking for work since January 2009. I am educated with two college degrees and over 30 years experience in my field.  I have applied for hundreds of jobs as have most unemployed Americans. There are little jobs to be had and there are so many people out of work, that the few jobs there are, employers are bombarded with resumes and applicants. Yet the Republicans are living in a dream world of: big houses, fancy cars, the best healthcare, big bank accounts- the majority of Republicans in Congress are wealthy- and little if any care for the disenfranchised middle class and poor.

Here is the reality as I see it.  When people become desperate, they do desperate things. I feel it is time for the millions of us to organize and march peacefully on Washington and demand we be heard!  The alternative is abject poverty and the collapse of our economic system and way of life.
